Just watch the first innings go for as long as possible until rain comes back instead of doing a five over per side game so they don't have to refund everyone

I’m probably stating the obvious but wouldn’t the obvious solution be that the grand final always be played at Marvel?

I know it takes away any home ground advantage but surely all the teams would agree that it’s a better alternative to what will potentially happen tonight.

This doesn’t happen a lot, a reserve day is a must for final but in this instance it won’t help anyway. Cricket gets rained out from times to time otherwise we gotta start playing all test matches at marvel

With the amount of rain that’s occurred over the last few days would the ground be up to it anyway?
I don’t have an answer to that but I recall that the SCG tests have the most days washed out out of the other the Australian cities, so the groundstaff should be used to this situation :p

Yeah or a reserve day I suppose. I just find it a bit silly that a tournament is being decided this way. A tournament that we’re attempting to put on the map to attract the world’s best.

I guess the difference with test matches is that it would take multiple days for it to be completely washed out, and there’s generally a few tests ina series so having one washed out is not the end of the world.

This being a tournament final is a different story imo. Could you imagine if the AFL grand final got called off for whatever reason? There’s no way they’d just use some formula to decide the result...I’d hope.

So if there looks like any gap in the weather to start this match, I assume I will just put in 3-4 batsmen from the team batting first, all the bowlers and WK from the fielding side, then hope for as many overs until the heavens open again
That'll work if they toss the coin before the scheduled start time. However, if it's after that, SC will be locked.

They've stated it could take an hour to get the ground ready when the rain stops, this doesn't bode well with me. They should have the super soppers out atm.

I agree, this is a joke. Pretty embarrassing for Cricket Australia in my view.

I find it amazing that a charity match that was only conceived of weeks ago can be moved, but the final of our premier domestic cricket competition has no meaningful backup plan whatsoever.

This is a good and important point.

If the toss has now been delayed, do we just stack our sides with a balance of top order batsmen/hitters and those likely to bowl in a shortened innings, without knowing which side to skew those picks towards, and cross fingers?

Hard to see a better plan than that?

Not really much point doing it earlier while they were waiting for that last band of rain that's just passed through I guess?

Remarkably it looks like there might be a couple of hours worth of clear air before the match-ending rain band arrives from the north east.

I find it amusing that we have had 2 games scheduled during the last 8 days.... comp could have been all over by now ...
Good point, I feel like the comp has lost momentum with the long break. I get the desire to play finals on the weekend but they may have erred too far that way.

Even Channel 7’s telecast only starts 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.

Doesn’t the AFL grand final coverage start in the morning?
