That’s quite a good point. I had slotted him in as he looks value at sub-600k, but on closer inspection he cops WC round 1, GWS round 2 and then Ess round 7. Hutchings, De Boer and Clarke were the three most effective taggers from last season and Oliver is clearly the Dees best mid and doesn’t handle a tag very well.

Gee that’s interesting that you’ll jump off that quickly. I expect the De Boer tag comes in R2 but Hutchings and Clarke tags are not as certain, Clarke got dropped eventually last year. Deboer tag only affects two price movements as well given it is only in R2. If he backs up with 110s in R3 and R4, he’ll still be worth starting.

Yeah the tags aren’t certain but the risk is certainly there.
Price movements aren’t much of a factor as he will be set and forget, it’s more the potential lack of points scored for mine. He could easily start off the season with two sub-80 scores which would be less than ideal from a premium midfielder.

I took notice of this as well, especially given Ben is a Dees fan (and a very good coach).
One advantage that Oliver has is that he is arguably cheap vs history, as well as having natural progression potential. It means a low score or two might be a bit more acceptable from a price perspective, albeit the points scored element is important.
One other thing to consider is that I think many teams don’t tag every week even when they have a decent tagger (so the opponent has to play a tagger, choose to use him in that capacity, and then send it to Oliver for there to be an issue).
I’ll need to give this more thought but still have him at present.

Got him on my shortlist but to me he is still a handball clearance player, albeit I acknowledge that his kicking ratio has improved from memory ....

ROB was great value last year and you would expect should do a bit better this year after another pre-season. Lycett is coming off a career best year and was more consistent. I would probably give a slight edge to ROB of the two based on potential for improvement, but I'd expect both to score similarly. Only if you want to avoid Grundy/Gawn.

The first is more traditional GnR (ish) in that it packs a top line mid but the left over cash finds it's way into Doedee and Rowell who I'm not sold on at all.
The second gives me speculative M5, M6 who if they fire early actually makes it look like a proper GnR, for a certain definition of 'gun'.
