Williamson seems highly rated internally reading various footy boards - Played full intra club iirc - interesting if Teague rates him

Starcevich keeps getting praised by Zorko etc but where does he fit in? Does he kick Answerth out?

Brander another you keep hearing positive things about - keep hearing this wing role he is set for by Gaff etc

Rowell/Young/Hill/Pickett/Rankine/King are the only certainties at this stage IMO
Add Comben and another mid to the 6 you named and we should at least have enough for a playing bench.

Martin Frederick could be upgraded to cover Wines , watched him in some SANFL games last season , got some run and carry , not sure they need another HBF/BP though

Apologies if it’s been covered already, but what are the chances of Brander playing round 1 and what kind of role is he likely to play this season?

@Lost In The Sky @Manikato1 @Eagling @Spots @GrainFedBeef and any other WC fans I have missed..

Hi Ben. Unfortunately I have no extra info other than what has been in the public domain. LITS is your man most likely. Brander really can play anywhere which I suspect is his strength but also his problem. He is not actually "anything" as in not a backman or a forward or mid. And I think he has not played enough games at AFL level for the WCE to work his position out yet. Talk of him trying out for wing a few weeks back. Pre season games will be revealing. Shuey nominated him as the Eagle most likely to break out this year.

Jarrod Brander has put on six kilograms this pre-season as he looks to build a body capable of breaking into West Coast's backline.
"I want to get bigger and stronger so I can compete with bigger bodies if I get another AFL opportunity," Brander said.
"I think last year when I played down back I just used my athleticism to get me out of sticky situations.
"At the moment I'm working on getting into positions to defend dangerous spaces and that’ll benefit me going forward."

Yeah, I'm also just going off what LITS says... I don't live in the West so don't get to see too much...

It's a tough backline for him to break into but as LITS has said, if we want him to stay after his contract ends we need to start playing him.. barring injuries to key defenders to me it seems the wing or backup forward is where he'll play... not sure what his scoring will be like as a forward, hopefully he gets some opportunities against some of the weaker teams this year, games against Brisbane and Cats last year (both losses) weren't the easiest introduction to the big stage

THE ROOKIE: JARROD BRANDER | $133,000 | DEF / FWD | 35.0

The former pick No. 13 is one of the most intriguing players on the Eagles’ list. He has the mobility, agility and athleticism to play any position on the ground which makes him very useful for the way in which the Eagles like to set up – but where and how he slots in will be telling. The Eagles have hinted that he’ll get unleashed on a wing which is extraordinary considering he stands at 195cms. Brander knows how to find the footy and use it, he was a standout at WAFL level but with just three games under his belt coming into his third season at the club where’s he tied until the end of 2021, is this the year we get a good look at this athletic freak? Andrew Gaff seems to think so, telling Eagles media on twitter that “he can play any position on the ground. He can play on the wing, forward and back. I think this year he has put himself in a really good spot.”

EDIT: here's his WAFL numbers last year- not sure when he switched to wing

May have been mentioned already but in case anyone is like me and didn't know - Rowell is listed at 178cm & 74kg. I'm sure he will grow a bit and put on a bit of size over the o***eason but I didn't realise how small he is.
I actually didn't realise that either, I just assumed he was around 185cm & 80kg for some reason.

Think the other boys have summed it up pretty well, Is definitely in the mix for Round 1 pending fitness and really needs to be getting games this year. Was spotted the other week just walking laps, but nothing more has been said so I assume it was very minor.

Can play everywhere (FWD, Wing, DEF). Not quite sure where he'll settle, played most of his final year before being drafted as a Defender but swinging up forward at times. Both he and Oscar Allen can play at either end so I can see these two swinging between both positions as needed. Schofield and JK are both winding up in the next year or so, so there is potentially a spot at either end for him long term.

As for this year It seems he's being groomed for a defensive post, Possibly battling Will Schofield for that 3rd tall defender spot, or insurance if Gov and Barrass fail to come up for round 1.

Not sure he's going to be the highest scoring rookie, and might find himself in and out of the team as we are in full premiership mode this year, but he is supremely talented and there's a lot of excitement around the club about him. . It's encouraging to hear our Captain say he's the most likely player to breakout, and also the great words from another leader in Gaff.

Watch the Marsh Cup games where hopefully he'll be unleashed.

I have Nakia Cockatoo at the moment. I really like him as a player. But...he hasn't played in two years. He hasn't strung more than a few games in his career. He has never scored well. I think i'm going to move hill forward and chuck ash down back?

I think he is cheap enough ($148,200) to take a gamble on.
High praise from Dangerfield who reckons “He’s (Cockatoo) going to be one of the biggest differences that we have this year.”

The long wait could be over for Nakia Cockatoo as he continues to tick every box this pre-season for a return to AFL.

Feels like we are one key defender short.

Schofield looked past it in final and need to keep McGovern free.

Surprised how popular he is in supercoach teams. Whilst mentioned as a breakout player, think it was said he should get more games this year. DPP handy. Lets hope he gets a game.

Yes, Beyond Gov & Barrass, we only have Schofield as a tall with experience. Harry Edwards, Brander and Allen (who's been doing some training in Defense) are the other candidates for that 3rd tall defender, Rotham, Watson and the forgotten Cole all as Medium defenders backing up Hurn & Shep.

I suppose it's wait and see like all the rookies. If he plays well in the pre-season then he's in. I'm not banking on it yet. Anyway. It's fun to change your side.

The Roos have been impressed by exciting small forward Jack Mahony in match simulation and believe he could play in Round 1 if he continues his form.

A smart forward who finds space and uses the ball well, he is one of several players who will be desperate to fire in the four games ahead.

Add Jack Mahony 117k M/F from the Roos to the watchlist! DPP is super handy.

Not that it means much, but he's been in my team since the first team I put together this season, more as a place holder hoping he gets named.
