Starting to see a lot of people trying to poke holes in some of the absolute guns of the comp eg Fyfe Danger and Cripps. You can poke holes and try and find a reason why almost any of these top players should/shouldn't be good picks but at the end of the day if you want to build a club from the ground up you're picking fyfe over ed curnow. Same logic applies in supercoach more often than not the best players in the comp are the best in supercoach. Maybe we're overthinking these issues of danger's age, fyfe moving forward and cripps' inconsistencies because the options below these guys you can question a lot more. I will say though this is supercoach and anything can happen but I won't be stressing about picking these guys in my starting team.... until they ping a hammy in round 2 haha.
Tend to agree. Same reason why, if it came down to a decision between the two, I'd pick Bont over Dunkley.

Of the two, Bont is far more likely to explode and have a Brownlow winning, career defining, 125 ave year. When in doubt, pick the better player...

Dunkley averaged 128 last year in the 16 games from round 7 onwards when he was move to play pure midfield. He did that in his 4th season and really his 3rd where he wasn’t brought down by injury. Bont has played 6 seasons and his best average so far is 114.

Bont might be a better footballer but Dunkley seems like a more natural possession winner and ferocious tackler and is therefore more of a fantasy pig. The fact that Bont is better means he cops tags whilst Macrae and Dunkley roam free at the same time as being more naturally suited to fantasy.

After his move to pure midfield only Nat Fyfe had more contested possessions than Dunkley.

Agree there's not much between the top mids but we can only have 4-6 of them in our starting side before we really impact on other lines, hence the nit picking to justify our decisions.

Fwiw I currently have Macrae, Neale, Kelly and Cripps.

My nit picking has Fyfe with a new coach/uncertain role, Dunkley and Bont with only one year of history (Dunkley particularly), Danger with age and early tag factors, and Treloar with being a ball butcher. All of them have been in my team at various stages.

True, but we're not comparing Fyfe with Curnow. We're comparing Fyfe with Neale/Macrae.

hopefully the Bont will become untagable like Ablett was and hopefully Dunkley will be like Cripps and Oliver and be able to be tagged out of games

Yeh I get ya I just said it for a laugh haha. I'm starting all of those guys you mentioned at this stage except Curnow lol. The point I really wanted to make is that there's a lot going right for these guys as picks and while you can question them I wouldn't let too much of the talk get to you if you want to select them. I just get a feeling at times a lot look at the upside of the tier below and expect them to overtake these guys when in reality sometimes the ones you expect to step up let you down. I've experienced it with guys like Treloar and Parker over the years not stepping up to the next level when I expected them to. However these examples didn't average 120+ for over half a season like Dunkley or Josh Kelly did for example so this season could be different.

That won't happen, Bont has shown he can be slowed down to an extent and will be the one who gets tagged. When Dunkley did get tagged last year it was a half against Essendon and he still had 16 disposals.

Cripps was also never ever taggable until the 2nd half of last year when he was playing with that foot injury and if fit I don't think he can be stopped. Oliver is also rarely tagged out of games but is a bit taggable.

Historical averages , very interesting.

Might be better off not starting him and looking at another option.
So if you don't start with Danger then what other options are you considering?
Right now I have him in my starting team and for some reason I'm trying to find valid reasons to NOT start with him.

Let's just say he has rubbish games in round 1 against GWS (maybe an SC score of 60-80) and round 3 (SC score of 90-100) against WCE, assuming he gets a decent score against GC (around 120), how much in price will he actually drop? $80k-90k? Will the idea then be to upgrade a rookie to him then?

I might be overthinking a bit but I reckon he's gonna finish in the top 8 midfield rankings by season's end so I just want to get him in now.
Then again I can easily be convinced otherwise lol :ROFLMAO:

Current midfield: Macrae, Fyfe, Kelly, Cripps, Treloar.
Hey can I please ask what your reasoning behind Treloar is? You reckon he can replicate his form towards the back end of last season and be more consistent? I remember he didn't start off too well last year but went crazy after the bye rounds.

Also are you worried about J.Kelly's injury history? I want to have him in my team but I just can't see him playing a full season without missing a few games unfortunately.

I’ve been struggling to split the dogs mids myself as well, I’ve had Bont in most of my drafts to date.

Just got a feeling he can go to another level this year, and I’ve been burnt once or twice paying absolute top-dollar for premiums hoping for more of the same after a huge breakout...

Those "feelings" are a problem. I get them. I had a closer look at the doggies.

I don't have anything concrete but these are my musings.
Dunkley and Bont don't seem to be able to co exist.
Dunkley seemed to benefit when Bont had low rebound 50's, i.e. played forward. This might disappear with Bruce playing.
Macrae has a low standard deviation and is hard to buy into.
They might all be good picks and rnd 14 gives you an out with a slingshot during the byes.

Treloar’s back end form looks good, and I like him over Oliver. I prefer Neale and Danger over them both, so might see what I can do.

Jelly is a frightening to both own and not own. If I need cash I can imagine he’ll be the one to make way.

Is anyone else considering Sam Petrevski-Seton
He seems to be a consistent starter for the blues, playing 64 of a 66 games since being drafted
His averages were
2017: 67.7
2018: 67.2
2019: 81.4
He seems to be doing better under Teague and now with a full pre-season with him might help as well

He will be in my starting line up this year as my POD

haven't considered him, but will improve again this year, should have stints off half back and mids and is a good ball user.

Libba could be Dunkley's kryptonite so I would look at where Libba may be playing when considering Dunkley as a starting prospect.

2019
With Libba: 15/108
Without Libba: 7/135
Seriously think Libba needs to find another role ... seen it with McLean who never returned to his midfield role once he hurt his shoulder ...

Edit: did notice (I think) that Libba played the more forward line pressure lock down role though ...
