Started mid last year, which got me a bit more into AFL. Am an NRL nut.

So this will be my first full season.

Def: Laird, Houston, Doc, Roberton, Hill, Young (Gould, Rivers)
Mid: Macrae, JKelly, Bont, Oliver, TKelly, Rowell Flanders, Pickett (McHenry, Mead, Hibberd)
Ruck: Grundy Gawn (Comben)
Fwd: Whitfield, Dusty, D.Smith, Bonar, Cockatoo, Rankine (Brander, King)

My knowledge of AFL players is limited, any recommendations for a rookie?
That's as good a base to take into the preseason matches and finetune as the Rookies emerge leading up to R1.

I wish I had this much access and knowledge in my first full year...

Heap better coaches in here that are willing to give advice , but their is not much not to like about that side until the rookie picture becomes clearer.

Hibberd & Mead are both under injury clouds at the moment.

Flanders could be a iffy one , no idea who to replace him with though , maybe Starcevich or monitor Simpson , Mahony , Budarick etc

Looks pretty darn good to me

Well cheers guys, I’ll sit still for time being. Reassess rookies to make sure I’ve got a full squad (bar 1) playing in round1. Seems like it’ll be chaotic with team lists.

It’s certainly helpful having so many seasoned coaches on here to read their views to learn a lot in my first year. I imagine my rookie year will be much better than my NRL rookie year, despite knowing much less about the sport, simply due to the wealth of knowledge I have access to.

For now, they will change at least 50 more times before the season starts. I currently have 6 expensive rookies (160K+) and over $100K in the bank, so plenty of room to move and should be able to get another premium in there easily enough once the starting rookies are clearer.

Hasn't moved since SC opened and highly unlikely to either ... just suits every structure that I've come up with thus far ...
But you could put any of your M/F players there though unless you don’t have any others up forward? Dusty/Smith/Bonar/Cockatoo - not really Whitfield specifically at M5, unless it is?

I think that coaches adopting this set up has more to do with their preference of taking an extra non-Rookie FWD instead of that 5th MID. The positioning of this DPP FWD ala Whitfield allows them to still get there allotment of FWD Rookies in their team.

if they have a M/F rookie up forward it’s just about positioning but yes if you want the extra forward say Lynch rather than a mid priced mid option then I get it. Or if your budget limit for M5 is $600k I guess

Latest version:
D4 S Hill
M5 Prestia
R2 Reilly O'Brien
F4 D Smith
4 x $180k+ Rookies

Downgrading Gawn to Reilly O'Brien allowed D.Smith to be moved from M5 to F4 and upgraded Rayner (F4) to Dangerfield at F4.

My first team of 2020. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Don't be too concerned about the rookies at this stage, they're just place fillers until we start seeing some form in the preseason

first team I think I have seen without Docherty

nice sprinkling of Collingwood rookies

looks well balanced , nice to see some different names in Crisp , Smith & JDG.

Nice team, like the B Smith inclusion, I also reckon he's worth the gamble, we know he can score well in SC and if it's true he's getting more mid time then why not. Mids very solid. In the forward line i'm reticent to select Dusty early as he has a consistent pattern of dropping in price over the first half dozen rounds each year 70-100k often.

The thing that stands out is:
Premium Players
Def - 1 x Rnd 13
Mid - 3 x Rnd 13
RK - 2 x Rnd 13
Fwd - 2 x Rnd 13

My reasoning is that I couldn't justify paying 600k for a FWD ... but am willing to do so for a MID.

But as you say I could position him in the FWD line if I wanted too ... but that is not the structure I'm looking to start with ...
