Tom Mitchell has spent a lot of time with Greg 'Diesel' Williams to get through some tough times mentally and to improve his game, I'm still not writing off Tom Mitchell to hit a 115+ average this season, just seems to have the mental toughness to enable him to do it. It'll be his body or the coaching staff that may have other ideas. Worpel showed last season he can take more responsibility.

I'm still 50/50 on starting him, he's a day by day prospect up to round 1 and not a worry as he's easilly replaced around that price bracket.

I could be going in to 2020 with 4 or 5 PODS being Mitchell, Gawn, Lloyd, Whitfield and Dusty.............and man that brings a smile to my face.
Agree, that if Tom Mitchell gives me any real doubt before Rd1, then I would drop him.
Out of the top priced Mids this year, besides J Kelly, I see that Tom Mitchell has the best chance of increasing his avg (116) the most, so I like that.

If we all had the inside info from the AFL clubs, and a crystal football to see the future, then we would all have the same team. So trying to guess the future is a bit of fun :)

what’s everyone’s thoughts on mccluggage?
Opportunity might be the stumbling block. He needs to push past Neale, Lyons, CEY and Zorko and he still seems to be behind them after the first practise match.
I like McCluggage's footballing ability and SC prospect coming into this season, hence was keeping a very close eye on his role last weekend. They were pretty close to being at full strength for mine and he played more of an inside role rather than wing and ticked every box for me. His craft around the stoppages actually helped Neale to get free on numerous occasions to received that releasing handball out of the congestion. The worry for me is that he's still one of their best wingman and is damaging when forward so his versatility could be the limiting factor to his SC ceiling.

The other guy who unexpectedly caught my eye was Berry who only played the 1st half. Similar role to that of McCluggage and what was telling was that the Lions drop off in intensity coincided with him being rested for the 2nd half. Will now follow with interest for their 2nd game.

I'm still not committed to either of them yet, they're more in consideration if I'm forced to look for more value pending on the state of available Rookies. With all that says, they look to be building quite a formidable midfield group for the years ahead and wouldn't surprise if one or both of those names end up being staples of our SC teams.

Is Cripps a must have?

Not liking the yo-yo finish to the year..
I think he was like that from rnd 9 onwards, Teague took over in rnd 11? I get that a couple of games (or 1) might have been injury affected, but those other games where he was either tagged, or just beaten by a better midfield are worrying. Trouble is the ceiling is so high, so his down games were counterbalanced by his high scoring in the others. I don't really need the worry of someone who I've paid a bucket load of cash for pumping out 60', 70's, particularly if I have whacked the C on them. For me he's not in, but he might be if some of those low scores equate to a drop in price and a relative conducive draw.

I did not start him last year and it really hurt. I then traded him in and copped the 2nd half yo-yo. I have a feeling that he may be a bit of an early season warrior given his game style and age and he tires a bit in the second half of the season. However he is a year older now and probably has more help this year so that might disappear.

For whatever it is worth I currently have him in my team due to his early season strength but am open to other options.

But is that $100k savings worth the 200+ points you will lose to a 112-115 M8 option others may have?
I would love to know how many coaches end up with all 8 of their mids averaging 112-115 + in a season and how quickly they achieve it.

Based on last season's stats only 9 players available to select as a mid this season went 112+ for the whole season.

Apparently Cripps has increased his speed a lot so that should help
Been looking at this .... Cripps, Walsh, Murphy, .... potentially Curnow and then I see a gap ... Setters, SPS, Nenwes, Fisher, Martin etc ...

- Still at least one short IMO ... or at least two need to step up ...

I recall there being a thread that breaks down the statistics for player averages by age. Does anyone know where that thread is located? Cheers.

Has to be the goal, only way to play is to trade in the players you think will be top 10 or so on their line or those you suspect might have a good run home. Houli was an example of this last year. But I always try and target a group of players I choose before season starts and this list will evolve as the season moves. Worse thing you can do is go into a trade with a bucket of money and just take best available that you can afford. Target your selections and trade cash cows around them as needed. There’s nothing wrong with cutting a cow loose early to grab that premium that may have bottomed out.
