Naismith R2, B.Williams R3 :unsure::unsure:
Very tempting if Williams is there Round 1. Would free up plenty of cash to use elsewhere (my backline could use it), but I think you need to be confident of an 80+ average from Naismith. Even then that may not be enough if Gawn comes out firing and justifies his price tag.

What’s Williams going to be like is he going to be worth a Look at r2 or so and if so where would you put the rest of the coin in which lines .
Wouldn't think he has the job security to be a reliable option at R2. I went down that path last year with Phillips and Lewis Pierce. Fair to say my season was screwed three rounds in

Definitely not a candidate for R2... He may start the season in the 22... but will still have Tom Hickey and Nathan Vardy breathing down his neck each and every week. Way too much rish to even consider Williams at R2.

A lot will depend on what the Eagles decide to do with their rucks... Preference would be to play NN with a R/F as backup but with his managed TOG can they afford to do that, so it could be Hickey & NN which worked well last year...

If they go with a R/F I did like what Williams offered last night... he perhaps has a few more strings to his bow than Vardy... maybe they can get away with both Allen and Williams as backup rucks?

What did you think about Hickey not even getting a run last night?

A couple of things come to mind. West Coast has traditionally in the past not played a few players in some pre-season games to try and better replicate a regular 22 man regular season game so that could explain Hickey & Brayshaws limited minutes. The other thought was they could have had a plan to only play Nic Nat for the first half with Hickey to play the second half... But with Nic going well they might have abandoned that plan during the match.

Yeah brown should be fit for round 1. Even if he misses, he’ll be back within 1-2 weeks. With Larkey in there as well, there’s no room for Xerri.
That was my thinking a few days ago when I posted if their was room for all of Brown , Larkey , possibly Wood & Xerri.

Maybe he still might be a better option to start as R3 over Comden just in case he is named Round 1 and stays around longer.

Naismith is certainly interesting at $ 251,500.00 (similar to Roberton , Vandenberg , Sier etc) , probably needs to average 80-90 to make that $ 150,000.00 profit which would take him to $ 400,000.00.

You are then hoping Gawn is available at $ 550,000.00 assuming going to do the traditional 1 down/1 up (given so much uncertainty over cheap rookies starting now will we even have downgrade options presenting ?)

Don't think Gawn even got close to that mark last season and if he does would his performance be still good enough to be R2.

Think it would be a lot easier starting Roberton , Vandenberg , Sier and being able to get a fallen premium for them for $ 525 - $ 550 k ish around the byes.

If I don't take Gawn , think I would take Goldy or ROB personally.

Rucks are not the position to try and get too cute with.

I'm pretty keen, although I don't rate Jacobs much as opposition. Good to see he scored well even when they got pummeled.
Jacobs actually looked OK to me until he copped that knee to the head and proceeded to spend the rest of the game in the forward line. He looked fit and seems to cover the ground well and don't discount the potential positive impact that the Giants midfield will have on his scoring. Is he motivated enough and how much will Mumford play...?

That makes Naismith score very noteworthy when we take into account his low %TOG.

How many are back on the Naismith R2 wagon? (Or newly jumping on?)

Looked good and knee’d Jacobs in the face with a NN like jump at one stage :ROFLMAO:
Naismith teams look so much better because it solves a few different problems in one fell swoop. What a relief. I would need to see a full, fully fit game from Gawn, plus be more bullish on other rookies than I am now, to be swayed away from him. Assuming the Swans set up the same way in the next Marsh game.

Yeah agree with these sentiments. There’s now an argument that he could average 75-80 in a pure number one ruck role (with Sinclair playing mostly fwd) so that would make him one of the better cash cows on offer in any case.

Naismith didn’t play much of the second half so hopefully he gets a full crack in Marsh 2.

It’s reminiscent of Witts a few years ago so you’d think Naismith is better than 75-80.

As you say the comparison is not to Gawn it’s too the other cash cow options.

The similar circumstances are quite uncanny (lack of good rookie options, etc). I've learnt my lesson with Witts. Lycett R2 worked well the following year as well.

I'd be extremely happy with 75 from Naismith, but I agree that he could push 80 if that role he got continues (primary ruck with Sinclair as pure backup only). Early draw is quite good as well, no Gawn/Grundy before byes and worst is Goldy/NN in R7 and R8.

even though Naismith looked good yesterday still can't go past English

he's the perfect option to see how Gawn,Marshall and ROB go

would hate to potentially overpay on any of them and for one of the others to be the new or still number 2 ruck
