It’s $330k though in your M8-9 and relying on Green not doing a Hately in their stacked midfield.

Like you I’m struggling for options that’s why I’ve ended up with Pickett on the bench which ideally I would change if Serong or Green look viable.
There’s every chance you end up with Pickett benched as well though.

I feel Greaves, Rowell, Brander, maybe Watson and then Hill/Ash/Noble allows a skinny defence to partly solve the mid rookie dilemma.
Green should play early with Taranto out. I think Taranto and Ward will both be out for maybe the first 4 rounds. Should be two spots between Hately, Caldwell and Green up for grabs. Green was much better than Caldwell.

Serong also was very impressive. 11 CPs and was in the CBAs. Low TOG was a negative but Freo had 26 players all play.

In defence I have Roberton D4, Noble/Young/Ash D5, Gould D6 (Brander, Watson) Not sure how much skinnier you can go than that in defence.

I’m running Naismith R2 as well.

Pickett could average 70 on your bench..... had 96 in the grand final.

Thanks for the feedback, What about this team, not a lot of cash left with this one but a little more GnR.

Treloar nicked his hammy so I wouldn’t want to start him even if named R1.

Bonar also injured. Close/Cameron probably unlikely to be named R1.

I query JS of Starcevich/Keane as well. I think you may need to take Whitfield down to DSmith and then get in a few $150-200k rookies, especially SHill!

Thanks for the feedback. I should have noted that anyone under $250k won’t be locked in until after the round 1 teams are named, at this stage they’ve been selected for structure purpose. As far as Hill goes I think I’d want to see him play before I consider him.

And obviously my premiums are subject to fitness/injury but I don’t want to make a decision especially on one of my PODs until I at least see a diagnosis today.

Love the diversity in teams people. Every year blows my mind how the slightest 50/50 structural decision can be the difference in your team being top 500 or in the pack around 40k after 3 rounds.
ANYWAY bit scared with no Whitfield and Gawn in this side but i really like the players on field in this side as i think I've limited the chance of getting stuck with those 30-40 scores on field.
I honestly think every fwd ive picked can be top 8.
Obviously will need Dusty and Whitfield in and maybe have devon later in the season as bench cover for fwd/mid.
Ps. Not sold on docherty yet.

In defence you’ve listed enough names without even Hill or Greaves to push Roberton right up to D2 potentially. It feels to me like in previous years that’s where the rookies are again. I see that as a way to avoid too many expensive first year mid rookies who in my experience tend to not score to the level to justify the extra spend with a few exceptions like Walsh.

Say if Greaves is named he could score as well as Serong at $60k less especially if you aren’t even running him on field and you could look at Acres/Steven/Wingard in your mids.

Hopefully Marsh 2 makes this clearer and we can optimise that rookie spend.

I also have this thought that Pickett is not going to score as well as we think and the GF was one out of the box but who knows.

I like it. If just one more forward rookie turns up you could shift Budarick to your mids and clear at least one of those mid rookies place holders.

Yeh true. I could bring in King and let him slow burn on the bench I suppose.

Made some adjustments, removed Vandenberg, Houli, Ash and Hayden, brought in Haynes ( breakout) Dawson. Out with the old in with the new, not bringing in Laird, Lloyd, Sicily types, maybe after byes if they show form. Haynes is an intercept defender, had his best preseason ever, expecting upwards of 90 from him. Williams out injured will help too. I was racking my brain to come up with a way to change my side to include the more promising rookies whilst maintaining the $0 remaining team, and walking along I realised that honey_pot was the perfect way to finish it off.

I'm sure some players like Xerri won't be picked but with this lineup, it's pretty much a straight swap because most rookies are $124k.

I tried to pick rookies who performed well and had good tog during Marsh RD1.

Liking the Haynes and Atkins selections. Haven't seen them in many other teams, but both seem like they could be good POD choices. Atkins was one I was considering myself at one stage, but doesn't fit my current structure

Still not set on Atkins, would like to see how he goes this week and whether he gets midfield minutes. He's cleaned up his diet and should be fitter, so hoping he's an improver this year. Maybe the Cats need their ageing stars to stay out of the middle, started last year with Selwood, Danger the exception.

Is this Watson fella I'm seeing in teams just a FD?
Taken from the Marsh Week 2 thread...
Tobe Watson - what likelihood that he plays round 1 and strings a few games together?
Would also like to know this. Love me some 124k rookies.
He looks a likely type to my eyes, not much of him but has good height about him and moves well. What he did he did so with minimal fuss, I'll admit that he wasn't as noticeable on the telecast but still managed a decent score. This says to me that there's no reason why he can't score similarly in the real stuff, if he makes it. I don't think he's the direct replacement for Hamling/Pearce as such (Cox and Logue were the ones who occupied those posts), so it boils down to whether a Cerra/Aish types gets pushed back to accommodate Fyfe/Walters as to whether he maintains his spot for R1. For now, he's on my DEF bench.
