Ok, just want to confirm something if I can...

Lets say I go with Grundy & Naismith as R1 & R2. I then have a D/R (Williams) at D7/8, an F/D (Brander/Hill) at F7/8, and a F/R as R3 (Comben/Xerri).

Is there any way to get Williams to the R3 position by swinging Brander to D7 from F7 while at the same time swapping Comben to F7??? I know you can do similar shifts when trading but what if you are not actually doing a trade?

Pretty sure it's not doable in the ordinary course.
BUT
Last season there was a 'loophole' discussed on Twitter (@Bomber18 told me about so may be able to explain better) whereby if you traded a player out and then traded them back in in the same round, it 'undid' the trade and didn't count. If that loophole is still there you could use it to trade Williams out of D8 and then back in to the R3 spot. You'd want to be damn sure beforehand that it would count as zero trades and not 2 though!

We won't be able to test this theory until the end of the first round... a bit late...

I kinda liked the idea of having a choice out of Xerri, Williams and Cameron as the rotating R3 backup to a Naismith as R2 strategy.. surely one of them will still be getting a game if Naismith misses!!!

Disclaimer: I'm not having a go at you...:)

So Naismith locks you into 3 other spots on your team as insurance for that 'potential' backup. I would never have thought that a selection of one player would have such an influence domino effect on another, in this case, 3 other players.

I've had a pretty bad Monday to start the week and reading this made me laugh which was what I needed...so thank you.

If you take all four of Naismith, Xerri, Cameron and Comben you could get a rolling ruck loop with the best team FD (Roos). This should let you test Naismith scores a few times. You would also expect Xerri and Cameron to be two of the better scoring fwd rookies if picked rd1.

Edit - just saw THCLTs post -
You have to pick Xerri and Cameron as good picks in their own right. Naismith is the cream ;)

It's annoying that you can do it trading but not substituting. Must be a bit too technical. I'd also like to see players hold 3 positions.
I found this on reddit while searching for the 3 equivalent of dual.

What's the "3" version of the adjective "dual"?

"Trial"?
Edit: I'm siding with the answer, "treble".
Edit 2: But "trial" is apparently a thing to linguists!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammatical_number#Trial
Edit 3: Apparently, "treble" is synonymous with "triple", which is the wrong nuance since it implies 3 of the same thing rather than 3 different things together. I'm starting to think "tripartite" may be the word I'm looking for.
Edit 4: English is fu**ed.

I'm not offended at all but you have misinterpreted what I'm saying...

I'm likely to have Cameron and I'm likely to have Williams in their respective positions and also potentially Xerri as R3... an added bonus would be if they could all provide cover for my R1 or R2 (whether it's for Gawn or Naismith I'm not fussed either way).

That said and I'm just spitballing here, if you don't go after the rookies with the greatest cash generation you struggle to upgrade your team... based on the tiny bit of preseason we've had, it would seem they are all good selections on that front if they can get enough games... this is the reason why I might consider the Naismith option, not the other way around

Why not link Nyuon & Williams at R3/D8.

Start Naismith at R1

and link Cameron , Comben & Xerri with either Ceglar & Patton or both ?

Thanks for the clarification...

All 3 are starting from a long way back and not necessarily the next link in the chain. However, like you've says, another good M2 with some good early VFL form and who knows. The thing preventing me from going with too many is that all 3 are just a poor game or two from being banished which would leave too bigger hole to fix.

It has been possible in previous seasons. I’ll find the relevant twitter posts and explain more later so I can disclaim liability if it goes pear shaped but I’ve done it PRE LOCKOUT with success before in prior seasons (no way to know if it still works this season until R2 pre lockout)

Good point. I would make sure if you are doing this to only be attempting this before the first game of a round so you can reverse it if it doesn't work. Would hate to lose two trades this way by doing it post lock out. :D

Interesting. I might have to ask the wife to test it after round 1. ;)
