Maybe they should change it so each AFL contract specifies the number of games they must play each year! Someone with legal, statistics and IT capabilities could then set up an algorithm that then definitively shows all the team sheets for the entire season. That would take a lot if heartache out of S.C.
It might get a bit messy if someone in your line-up breaks a leg and is contracted to play (so must play) the following week. I guess, by then each S.C. fan will have their own legal team and after court injunctions, mediation etc and get it sorted. So, don’t worry about the fine print.

Not sure where you're getting this from - the knock on Cox is largely to do his marking as a forward (and to a lesser degree his kicking), his ruck work is actually pretty good (and still improving), which flies under the radar most of the time.
People are getting way overexcited about a player who had *one* solid preseason game and who was, looking back, never able to break into the Swans lineup despite their horror show in the ruck for the past 3-4 years (and especially last year).
I'm not saying that Cameron doesn't have potential because he is looking good, but the fervour on show here is a little overblown I suspect as there's a lot of water that has to go under the bridge before he replaces anyone in our best 22.

Would like to get your outlook on the GWS Rookies if you have one and don't mind sharing...
Ash - real attacking HB option, could he and Cumming be battling for a R1 spot considering Williams is missing.
Caldwell & Green - I think Caldwell has senior rank here but I loved what I saw from Green in M1. Taranto and Ward delay start will open up a spot or two, but you also have Hately on the radar. I can see both starting R1 but who goes for Ward.
I currently have those 3, based on roles available and potential for playing a string of early games: Caldwell>Green>Ash.

his ruck stats have dropped off significantly in the last two years though, perhaps due to Grundys dominance

West Coast Football Manager Craig Vozzo in today's West Australian on Jarrod Brander and today's Western Derby...
Asked about the role for young tall Jarrod Brander, Vozzo said: "He will have more game time. He will play the four quarters and a fair chunk of that will be on the wing"
That's good signs for round 1 as West Coast are playing a near full strength team today. Their likely round 1 team should come from today's squad with Darling, Allen & possibly Williams to also come into it.
From the below article, it seems Brander has an important role in the team in 2020, He's not likely to get massive numbers but the Eagles seem to want him playing games as I suggested earlier in the summer.

Rebooted Brander looks to fill void for Eagles
WEST Coast tall Jarrod Brander's move to a wing has been 12 months in the making, and the former key position player is determined to make the position his own in 2020.
After a frustrating second season that saw him play just two games to take his career tally to three, Brander has been earmarked to fill the wing position played by departed Eagle Chris Masten.
Recruited with pick No.13 in the 2017 NAB AFL Draft as a future key position prospect, Brander and the Eagles have recognised the difficulty of squeezing him into a 22 stocked with elite key position talent.
The 196cm youngster was told to have a run on the wing during pre-season training 12 months ago and impressed, using this summer to transform himself into a player capable of filling the role at AFL level.
"The forward line is quite strong here and the coaches were trying to find a role for me to play to try and get me into the team," the 21-year-old told AFL.com.au this week.
"I reckon the move happened in the middle of a training session last pre-season.
"I was playing a bit of half-forward and they said, 'go and have a run on the wing and see how you go'.
"I ended up getting a few kicks as a taller winger and it was quite natural coming from half-forward.
"So last year was just see how you go and learning, and this year I've had much more of a focused role."
The role Brander has filled in the pre-season is an important one that isn't always recognised on the stats sheet.
He had 11 possessions and three marks in the opening Marsh Community Series match against Essendon, but was praised by coach Adam Simpson for his structural work in a "step forward".
"You're protecting the corridor on the open side quite a lot, which teams are trying to do and I like that responsibility," Brander said.
"The inside mids and other wingers are more inside the contest, and then my position is to hold the corridor and protect the open side.
"It's not a position where you're going to get heaps of the footy or dominate the game, but it's an interesting role."
While he has been given every opportunity to make the role his own this pre-season, Brander says he will need to earn his place in the season opener against Melbourne on March 22.
After a frustrating 2019 that saw him suffer a serious hamstring injury in August, he is physically ready to go after an excellent summer that saw him shave 16 seconds off his 2km time and win the Eagles' pre-season yo-yo test.
"Last year I put on a bit of weight to get some size, but this year I've just held that and I feel like I'm covering the ground a lot better," Brander said.
"I got a bit stronger too and came back feeling quite fit and more comfortable in my own body, so everything has flowed a bit better.
"That's transitioned into game day and my repeat speed has been quite good. So I think the wing role has suited me."
After a lack of senior exposure in his first two seasons, it's easy to forget Brander was rated by some as the best key position player in his draft, with recruiters and player managers speaking about him as a possible No.1 pick 18 months out.
While he is enjoying the change of role and opportunity to make a spot his own, Brander sees no reason why he can't return to a key position role as his career progresses.
"As I get bigger and stronger and as I get a little bit older as well, the dynamic of the team will change," he said.
"I grew up playing it and I was able to do it quite well, so I see no reason why I can't grow into that role in time.
"But there's a spot there now that I can hopefully make my own for a little while."

I was a bit more optimistic on Brander after finding out that in Marsh 1 he scored reasonably in the first 3 qtrs when playing wing but struggled more in Q4 when he was moved from the wing (and some of the reserve guys like H Brayshaw got a run). As long as he gets the wing role he’ll do pretty well I reckon!

I'll have a closer look at home but I think Ash will play and is a better fit to replace Williams as that attacking hb, this seems to be how he is being played and some of the conversations I've read/ heard. What does this mean when Zac comes back, who knows but likely some time in NEAFL. Hately I think had a spot regardless and I think Green will play whilst Ward is out. Where does this leave Caldwell, well that's up to Caldwell and we need to see more but for me he's behind these three. I think Green will give the selection committee something to think about and will be hard to leave out. Pretty important hit out this next Marsh game.

Just saw in the article he is 196cm......arrrghhh........there was an article on this site few years ago (by @Rowsus I think) that suggests not to be player in mids/wings taller than 195cms, as their output is much lower. game of centimetres! LOL
ps. will probably still be in my side. Likes his weight vs someone like Georgiades at Port.

Looks like Rankine will play R1 which is at least some positive news

"If it was a game for premiership points we would have got the guernsey on him," Dew said following Gold Coast's win over Adelaide.
Matt Rowell and Noah Anderson only played half the game for the Suns as pre-planned, but Dew says the duo will benefit from travelling with the team and getting a better understanding of what road games are like.

Nicks was pleased with what he saw out of former captain Taylor Walker in a back-up ruck role, but don't expect 'Tex' to play there every week.
"I thought we saw some really good stuff in around Tex being near the footy," Nicks said post-match.
"What that does do is make you a little smaller ahead of the ball.
"It was pretty obvious towards the end their backs were able to dominate in the air and we couldn't quite get the contest we wanted ahead of the ball.
"It may be that into round one versus Sydney we may play a little taller ahead."

Caldwell playing NEAFLE practice match apparently, so maybe Green (and Hately) is ahead of him. I feel that if Green can replicate M1 with relatively good TOG, then he's almost a R1 starter.
If Ash was named for R1, I would also like to see Williams named in the same side or have some timeframe on how long he's out for to proceed with confidence. Williams playing more midfield to start with is also not out of the question for what it's worth.
