The fact I'm considering him as a POD says even more. :D

He did have a good Marsh 1, 97 from 81% TOG. 20 pt rise in his average last year coming into his 3rd season. 3 tons and a 98 from his last 9 matches. One I am wanting to see in Marsh 2, probably can't fit him in though without a restructure.
Coz of the rd11 non scoring hes worth keeping an eye on for a rd12 pick up not a starter

Def: R Laird, J Sicily, L Ryan, S Docherty, D Roberton, J Brander,

Very happy with my def structure which has been consistent for the majority of the preseason (R Laird recently coming in for D Houston) allowing the cheaper options to be taken in the fwd line due to the apparent lack of appealing rookies. Can also fit Noble and Williamson in either via R Laird/D Martin to J Dawson or J Macrae to M Bontempelli to gather the necessary funds.

Anybody else considering a similar path for def (eg 3 premiums, Docherty, Roberton and rookies).
Interesting looks like many are going lighter in defence and loading up on rookies (fingers crossed) and you are going the opposite.

Does that mean you are still doing your sub $ 400k forward line as well eg TJL , Tom Tom , Steven , Smith , JJK etc etc

Hanners in the mids ?

Unfortunately Hanners has made way to accomodate Laird and Martin via the downgrade to T Green as well as Nic Nat making way for Naismith.

A Brayshaw, J Steven and D Smith will likely be my F2-F4 assuming they all play RD1 and Dusty is currently my F1 but not ruling out returning to T Lynch/T Mac/J Dawson.

Now you have just confused me even more ?

Bring back Hanners

Those under $ 400 k forwards might become more and more appealing , very keen to see how Steven goes.

Need to cut some players somewhere

P Ladhams could also become very appealing if Lycett ends up missing RD1.

Surely Roberton could just be traded before his bye? Don't think it changes the fact that Houston is a great pick.
Personally I'm beginning to look at Brodie Smith being a better pick at D2/3, with him being slated to play a lot more in the midfield under Nicks.

The only thing keeping Houston in the discussion as a starter at the moment is his DPP status from where I'm sitting...

Any reason for no Sicily?

Also, wouldn’t say that most are starting Clark. He’s ownership is currently just 4%.
Hawks defence isn’t settled at the moment. McEvoy and Frost are new back there. Hardwick / Impey injured. Just not sure how all of this affects Sicily. He is also a loose cannon .. and I am a hawks supporter. Clark was an example of that group people are all looking at ...

If Ash & Cummings are both named RD1 for GWS.....anyone tempted to pick both ?

Who makes way when Z.Williams returns.......or perhaps he plays wing and another midfielder makes way......

If going with one...who are are you going with ?

Thoughts ?

Could be, considering Macrae to Bont and Danger to Walsh to fund the changes in Both DEF/FWD lines.

Howe looks absolutely supreme yesterday (as he did in the SOO game) and very tempting at his price, he's another who I feel is under priced going into the season. The Pies back 6 looks very settled and I think they will be one of the top defending teams this season. He looks to own that intercepting role and took almost every kick ins as far as I can tell.

The elephant in the room for me is Moore as he also looks beasty and can do almost everything that Howe can. That's the one thing stopping me from committing to Howe at this stage.

I think Crisp will be released more up the ground with this structure and I think he'll go close to the benchmark, he's one of the DEF guys who has a strong case of being that 100+ player. I own him all of last season for this exact reason so I don't know if I still have the patience for him.

I'm in the exact same position with Crisp, also started him last season in my round 1 team. All he needs is some CD love, never had any issues finding it. The other reason I like him is that I can pretty much just leave him alone and not worry about him, plays every game, first picked, maybe second behind Grundy or third behind Pendles but you know what I mean. A few good options around that price.

5 consecutive seasons playing 22+ games.
Has a great tackle avg for a defender.

Yea I like him too.

I'm also trying to balance PODS. I feel given the uncertainty in the rest of our teams, there is sense in taking more "certain" premiums.

Agree on Howe, he is continuing his form from the finals last year and would not surprise me if he went back to his historical mid 90's range, which at his price is a decent selection.

One thing to note about yesterday game is the opposition, the Saints leaked defensive SC points last year. Things don't look to have changed under Ratten.

Howe isn't playing the 3rd tall now with Madgen in the side, hence, frees him up.

I would concur with your 'certain' Premiums comment for Rucks & MIDs, however other lines are much more open in my view.

In DEF, I have Lloyd and probably Hurn (if fit) in the 'certain' category, then there's a wrath of options below that who'll be tightly bunched.

Go to the FWD and I would have Whitfield (if fit) and Dusty (if interested) as the 'certainty', then you have guys like Walters, Heeney, Cameron & Greene who'll be thereabouts. I've lost count on how many potential break out/value candidates who've had their names thrown about during preseason.

If you look hard enough for those perceived 'value' in DEF and FWD, then I don't think you have to compromise too much with regards to your starting Keepers. Guys like Docherty, Roberton, Steven, Smith, etc will go a long way into helping that cause. I know that I myself have had to change my outlook on them after trying to avoid them like the plague prior to Marsh.

Of the top 12 players on average in 2019; 6xDEF and 3xFWD had a starting price of less than $450K so they do exist.

It's not so much how many tall as the Pies tends to go in with a mix of 4 from Howe/Moore/Langdon/Roughead/Scharenberg/Madgen (prior to Roughead it was Dunn) regardless. I've highlighted Langdon as his omission I feel has a positive impact on Howe's intercepting prospect as Scharenberg/Madgen present less of a threat.
