I guess in the end it just comes down to expectations of Naismith. If he averages 80+ and plays every game before the bye rounds it's probably a win. I think I'd just rather find a way to weaken other areas while keeping Gawn and getting the rookies I need than take the risk on a guy who's played 22 games in 6 years for an average of 66 with little room to move if he goes down again.
We’ve got to sacrifice somewhere. To me Gawn is just another premium in an incomplete starting side like we all have. It’s going to be hard yards for all of us to get the upgraded side we ideally want - rucks mids anywhere.

Let’s see how Naismith goes next game.

Damn Ceglar & Naismith only cost $ 668, 500.00 ?

I think if I went down the Naismith route I would want a Ceglar type to start as some sort of insurance in case Naismith is the one to make way for Franklin/Reid (maybe it is McCartin , maybe it is Sinclair).

foward line with

whitfield, dusty, ceglar, brayshaw, smith. rankine

is looking pretty good

still deciding to pick gawn and mid rookie
or naismith and a coniglio type

So Ceglar scored 80 (66% TOG) and 101 (71% TOG).

Not high enough to convince me to start him so it's a pass/wait and see for me.

A breakout season at the age of 29 is almost unprecedented. I say almost as I think the closest was Will Minson who went at 114 in 2013 as a 28 yo. But he did have a season of 94 before that.
don’t agree at all. Thought he was very good and his tog last year as solo ruck averages out to 84-85. I’m down if I go the Naismith route, main issue is Clarkos magnets, esp because Hawks tall forwards seem to be dropping like flies

I think it is always dangerous taking a player who you have so little confidence in that you are bringing in a second player to back him up.

If you like both as individual picks then that's probably fine though.

Especially when the player you are bringing in as back up hasn't ever played 22 games in a season themselves

If I lived in Sydney I would track down Horse and ask him ?

Sometimes you just have to go where the $$$.

With any luck Naismith isn't named Round 1 and I won't be tempted.

Given his injury history their is every chance he is "managed" similar to Docherty and already it appears the Rowell , Anderson , Serong types are being managed in practice games !!!

Lycett's scan results could provide another option.

How bad is Witts foot really ?

All a lot of conjecture and speculation at the moment , but yes a lack of seemingly viable rookie starting picks may well lead to compromised mid-price starting picks which could then cause their own concerns and issues.

Wonder what a auto-select side looks like.

Okay, if you saw enough there to justify starting him, that’s fine. Just wasn’t enough for me (but I guess I was highly skeptical to begin with)

IIRC Nank had 110-120 type scores as a sole ruck in the 2017 preseason and ended up averaging 89. I was looking for similar scores with 80-85%TOG.

Maybe Ceglar just needs the opportunity to show he is a # 1 ruckman.

Has worked in the past for Martin , Witts , Lycett , ROB etc
My apologies mate, I thought the reason he had missed games previously was due to injury, not opportunity.

as you say, sometimes all it takes is that extra responsibility/opportunity for these blokes to flourish

no idea to be honest , assumed Big Boy stood in his way , I probably need to start researching VFL history as well to see if it was through injury.

Didn't they knock back GWS or the Lions offer for him over the summer ? so they obviously rate him

@THCLT

Do you happen to keep VFL stats on players ? (mainly on games played per season)

My google search didn't uncover much apart from Ceglar playing 31 games with the Collingwood VFL side in 2011-2012.

5 VFL games in 2015 & 3 VFL games in 2019

Cheers
