I felt the same way but Smith played himself into my side during the pre-season. Now Smith has been raised as a potential breakout candidate, but I think it will be too hard for him to gather the points he'll need. On the other hand, Smith has a new role and has definitely been in consideration by me, but I'm going a bit safer rather than expecting a spike season from him - and who knows, maybe Smith will get a game and with our current situation, you'd have to consider him if he does.

I don't think you can consider Smith a lock, it's more to do with the happens of the pre-season and how he suits your structure. Smith is in contention because he's as good as anyone else around his price and more for what he can offer, whereas the COVID-19 outbreak has put Smith as a viable option at his price point, and if you're willing to take the punt then Smith is a tantalizing prospect, and if Smith plays, alternative options are limited, so you have to keep your mind open.

This is exactly why I could never be confident picking Parish. Always seen as a “spare parts” type who can go forward, inside and outside mid when needed. Won’t have that consistent inside mid role.

I can see Smith outscoring Smith if hes named as that 2nd FWD/RUC than Smith would as solo ruck =)
