This thread is a good read.

I've actually taken things a step further, and am running a no-Gawn side (Naismith R2) with only 4 Mid Premiums. It's the structure that oddly looks "safest" to me with the current rookie predicament.
I looked at that also. Bonar will play a big part in whether I feel that structure is viable. It would be interesting if Bonar puts his hand up as a must have, to see how people fit him in with all the other $200+k rookies.

Interesting structure! Who are your mid rookies? I presume you have a few pricier guys?

I’m worried about going too thin in the mids as Green getting potentially dropped when Ward returns will be problematic
Good question

I actually think 5-0-6 is too thin.

Aside from Green , Rowell looks like he could be rotated , a few comments from Hardwick suggest Pickett might not be a 100% lock every week (especially with Graham , RCD , Ross etc wanting a place).

Trying to work Anderson/Bonar in as a kind of "security anchor" at M9 given queries on all the other highly mentioned bench options as well.

Not if he's already in your current version...;)

Yeah I've paid up for a few. Currently running Ash in the mids, he could easily turn into a $198k donut pretty quickly so who knows.

Has a very familiar ring to what's happening in the actual stockmarket right now.

Ward did his ACL in round 4 last year - while he might be "fit" to play a game in 6 weeks that doesn't mean they'll rush him straight back in instead of coming back gradually through the NEAFL and that's if he doesn't have any minor setbacks along the way.

Even if he does come back a bit earlier than I'm expecting there's plenty of room for Green to put together a solid enough body of work to pick up a significant amount of cash in those first 4 weeks if he is good enough, and perhaps even stake a solid claim to retain his spot in the side.

In the eventuality that Green does make way for Ward in after 4 weeks then he's still money in the bank and will end up playing again eventually.

The hardest decision will be whether you view him as a +150-180k rookie or a +250-300k rookie.

We seem to have a few cash cows popped up today to help us out but are cash cows going to be a problem for the whole year? I still see a lot of coaches trying to squeeze in a lot $600k+ players. Gawndy plus 4 mids plus Whitfield is 7 when 2 or 3 might have been the norm.

Might come down to Budarick for me. If he's named I think I can make a team I'm happy with that includes Gawn. Without him I can't seem to work it without feeling too exposed on MID and FWD lines.

This next week, probably like many coaches, has always been the hardest week for me in this game. Regardless of team selections and rookies named (or not named), I become my own worst enemy.

My brain forgets about the hours of research and analysis I’ve put in. I add in players that not once I’ve considered all pre-season. I can completely mess up and start with a team that I really shouldn’t be happy with.

This is the week where FOMO kicks in, where I dream about that sneaky pod going 115+ and add him in, where structure and byes are forgotten.

Whilst I recognise that the starting team is not the be all and end all, I definitely have let myself down a lot on this last week before the season starts with poor decision making over the last 10+ years of playing this game seriously.

Time to back myself in, trust my research and recognise that this is a marathon not a sprint.

Good luck over the next week all.

I can't help but feel we are all been greedy by selecting Green. Seems we are only seeing big rookie points and pushing aside the super packed midfield team he plays for and the likely hood he doesn't get a run of 5-7 consecutive games and ends up sitting on the bench waiting for a GWS star to get injured. My gut is saying don't be greedy.

And to be fair @Maso I say the same thing every year to myself haha.

BUT, this year I’ve got that post saved as my lock screen on my phone. Up here for thinking hey?

Can’t wait for the misso to see my phone and ask why she’s been replaced. Who am I kidding - she knows it’s that time of the year

Suspect Caldwell , Hately , O'Halloran , Shipley etc might also be pushing their claims for a spot.

Not sure how people expect Ash & Cumming to fit in with the likes of Heater , Kennedy , Don't Pay & Zac Attack (when he returns).

Think they have probably 24-26 to fit into 22 even before Ward returns.

Be a interesting team reveal.

I wonder if Anderson & D Stephens might be "safer" starting picks.

Tend to agree ... from my rookie tracker last year I had the following:

- Doesn't include any players that didn't "debut" .... Ie Cummings
- Not the worst for playing rookies but also not in the top half or very encouraging either ...

learn the way we play , show us what you have in the NEAFL and we will keep you keen by naming you 20 - 26 each week

interesting didn't they come out and say we don't pick our team each week with SuperCoach in mind with all the Hately outrage

I say they have 19 locks for Round 1 (17 played in the Grand Final)

Cameron
Coniglio
Corr
Daniels
Davis
de Boer
Finlayson
Greene
Haynes
Himmelberg
Hopper
Jacobs
Kennedy
Kelly
Lloyd
Perryman
Shaw
Taylor
Whitfield

Williams is a ? for Round 1

Reid played in the GF

Cumming , Hill , Keeffe , Langdon were the Emergencies

and now Ash , Caldwell , Green , Hately , O'Halloran , Shipley etc

before Ward comes back and eventually Taranto

good luck being on that match committee

if the kids are good enough to get a chance , they then have to play well enough not to get dropped
