A few picks out of the box here and it certainly wont be my final team, but I'm just trying a few alternatives on for size:

DEF: Laird, Docherty, Roberton, Noble, Zerk-Thatcher, Starcevich (Brander, Gould)

MID: J. Kelly, Cripps, Bont, Whitfield, Oliver, Rowell, T. Green, Pickett (D. Robertson, Hibberd, Budarick)

RUC: Grundy, Gawn (Xerri)

FWD: Dusty, MacPherson, Ceglar, Steven, Devon Smith, Taylor (Rankine, Mahony)

Just about set, depending on rookie selection. Ive put a fair bit of time into rookie research, hopefully dont have to alter too much when the teams drop.

DEF: I've had Crisp the last 3 years, and im willing to go again. Incredible durability, and looks to be getting up the ground a far bit. Think he can finish as a Top 8 DEF for both pts/ave, especially with a few older guys on the slide. Hardwicks injury sold me sicily completely, if you take out the 40 game where he played permo forward last year, he's already averaging the same as Laird. Massive upside and ceiling, wouldnt be surprised to see him as the number 1 defender. Noble has greater JS than BZT & Cumming, and think he can average similar to Roberton (mid 70s-80) and will have learnt alot from 2 finals and another AFL preseason.

MID: Macrae, Oliver and Dangerfield are all extremely durable and consistent selections. Top 8 for TP & Av. I've had Bont since right before JLT1, but the ownership swing with Dunkley (now down to 11%) is ridiculous for a player of his ceiling. He's the type that could start with a 5rd average of 130, and at that sort of ownership im willing to take him as a semi-pod. Kelly off a full preseason is a scary proposition.

RUCK: Im viewing Naismith as rookie, with this years crop of rookies, cash generation is so important and I think 150k is definitely achievable here. If his body can hold up until Franklin comes back into the side for presumably Sinclair, his scoring could push up even more. Im willing to bet against Gawn averaging 130 through the first 8 rounds, I don't see it achievable with 4 tough SC scoring matchups (Nic Nat, Ryder/Marshall, Witts, Lycett). I'd love to start Gawn, but the compromise it does to the rest of my team I feel isn't worth it. I considered Ceglar F3 instead of Trac for Naismith coverage, but I think his Marsh 2 game was an indication of his ceiling rather than potential average. If Naismith does get injured, i'd rather burn the extra trade to fix it by downgrading a premo elsewhere.

FWD: I didnt really want to start Whitifield but im scared about falling too far behind, especially if Gawn gets off to a flier. Harmes moving to HB is enough to sell me Trac, and ive been very big on Brayshaw since early preseason, Marsh 2 locking him in for me. I want to avoid King at all costs, hopefully Rankine or someone else is named. Starcevich at M9 for now gives me some wiggle room with rookies.

Thanks to eveyrone that has read this far, this forum has been a massive assistance this preseason and I would greatly appreciate some feedback :)
Very close to my team. Same structure... Just a few differences with players. Love it. Looks rock solid to me ?

Ok think I am getting close, getting nervous with so many mid prices though

Def- Laird, Houston, Doc, Ash, Zerk- Thatcher, Brander /Mcasey, Watson

Mid- Macrae, Neale, Cripps, Mitchell, Danger, Rowell, T Green, Star/ McHenry, Pickett, Robertson

Ruck- Grundy, Naimsmith/ Conroy

FWD- Martin, Toby Green, MacPherson, Steven, Smith, King/ Taylor, Budarick

Thinking about changing Danger to Dunkley and possibly changing Stephen to upgrade Houston to Loyd.

Thoughts??

Normally I'm all over the player research at this time of year but I've only just done my initial team and that is without doing the research. Hopefully now I've put a team together I get the itch but so far I've been feeling a bit meh.

Please let me know, any thoughts on improvements.

Cheers guys!

Looking back at my initial team, a lot of players are still there. This new team I'm playing with is a lot riskier and a lot more mid-priced but with the outlook on rookies not great for the start of the season, mid-price might not be as risky as rookies.

Let me know what you think (and what to change), bit of cash in the bank too.

Outside of the potential of him missing games like he did last year, my main concern is that he will lose points to a number of good players at Geelong such as Danger, Selwood, Ablett, Duncan, Dahlhaus, and Stewart. Whereas at St Kilda he was right at the top end of the ball-users.

Decided I would post my Current team. Went for a little bit of a different approach looking at some other teams.

Current structure is
1-1-6
6-0-5
1-1-1
1-4-3

The major difference is no Grundy, after having Gawn the last few years it is impossible for me not to have him. I also see very good value in Jacobs and a few other Mid-priced players and unfortunately Grundy was the one who I decided to remove to fund it.

Would love any feedback

They didn't affect Tim Kelly scoring 100+ last season so not sure I quite understand this reasoning.

I'm not sure these players outside of Dangerfield and maybe Stewart are any better than any other team, in fact I'd say from what I've seen they're all pretty average.

Finally

Pickett on the bench ✓

Walsh & Hately are both different.

Not interested in Steven or TJL ?

assuming McPherson is actually Macpherson (GCS)

no Rankine

I'm playing around with a 4 prem midfield.
Allows me to go:
Lloyd, Laird, Doc in defence
GG in ruck
Whitfield, Dusty, Trac/Gresh, Lynch in forwards.

If rookies turn up I may go this route and forgo Steven and Smith.

I've had a 4 premium midfield for a bit, its probably the structure I prefer atm
