Only 4 mids I've 'locked' on field right now are Neale, Jelly, Titch (M1, 2 & 3) and Rowell.. still a bit to play out...

Jack Steven worth a punt to bring Pickett on field?
Assume he'll play fairly soon, unless I've missed some other news.
Pickett only had 14 disposals 5 tackles 6 CP at 71% Eff. I'm sure out of Roberton,Starc,Brown,McInerney can go close to matching if not surpass.

Match Statistics Comparison First Game Last Year (Left) and This Year (Right)

A quick analysis reveals that the spread of scores looks largely the same, done with less disposals. Jayden Short scored 83 SC pts last season and 86 this season. This season he had a 25% drop on disposals. I50 and R50 are obviously down and RDT to SC ratio way up.

Don't quite have time right now to analyse deeper, I'm sure some others will.

Very early days, but should I plan my team with the view of moving Walsh out at the completion of the round ?
Seemed to play a weird game with a slightly different role....not sure if he just had an off night but looked lost not playing on Cripps's hip pocket all night.
Might be a candidate for a bubble boy rookie swap but it would be nice to see another game...question mark over him imho.

It's a tactic for the die-hards. The average joe blow would have Pickett on field.

I have to disagree with you saying all coaches who did it would have had a plan in place because if the discussion in this thread is evidence then I'm not seeing much planning just a string of "oh, what do I do now" posts. I think maybe it was one of those auto-pilot/do it because I can decisions now that looping is so ingrained in the game tactics.

My perplexion is why loop the 1 of our most likely rookies? I don't know what score was acceptable as a cut-off either? Anything over 60 for a rookie is a win for mine and I felt that was Pickett's floor. Now people are putting Steven in there as a donut but doesn't that just push a forward rookie on field over whoever you were spending $367K on? Do mcInerney, Brown, etc inspire confidence that they would even get to 60?

It feels to me like a surefire way to tie up one of our trades. Yes, we have lots.

All that said, I didn't notice much if any discussion on the tactic on here leading up to the game so I don't think it can be called SCS forum official advice. If anything I though from the FD thread that the consensus was no FDs this season. Also, yes I am sure some did indeed have a VC loop plan with Pickett E.
TBH...R1 getting started was a surprise to most, myself included. This could've caught a few a little off guard, personally, I only seriously looked at my starting team yesterday when I was confident that at least the first match was going to get underway. I haven't really given much further thought into players/structure, just wanted to lock in my players for last night's game, hence never thought/consider looping Pickett which would be my normal way of thinking (This season is anything but normal).

I'm adopting a more 'relaxed' attitude this season and trying to maximise my enjoyment of the game whilst we still have them. Don't want to invest too much yet as there are other priorities at the moment.

Quick question.

Those who play this week get a price rise next week.

Those who debut in Rd 2, do they get a price rise in Rd3, or in Rd

Price rise is at end of the Round 2 for those who played rd1+2. Those who debut rd 2 and play rd3 will have the price up at the end of the 3rd Round. (Minimum 2 rounds to start rising)

I am kind of the same..... hopefully this relaxed attitude will be good for us as we won't overthink our teams!

It certainly feels like the year for it. I’m taking a few punts that I ordinarily wouldn’t (and that’s saying something) but chances are this is gonna be an awfully frustrating season for all involved so not as invested as I normally would be.

Yeah I'm much the same also, Haven't put as much thought into my team as usual and trying to stay relaxed and enjoy this as an escape from everything that's happening. Doesn't mean I still won't be giving it my all to win this thing now that it's actually going though , lol

Be careful what you're looking at and not looking at. Pickett also had 26 pressure acts which was the most of any player on the ground last night.
First time I've watched him closely and boy was I impressed.

His positioning and running pattern, whilst in the CB, still needs work which will no doubt come with time. His balance, poise and peripheral vision with ball in hand is exemplary for someone with his experience. Everything he does is pure class with a capital 'C' and he just makes racking up SC points like many few can. I'm very interested to follow his SC development and to see whether he'll one day reach that SP status which has been traditionally reserved for the heavily contested types.

He now joins Rozee as players I'm most keen to watch for this season as they both bring a certain X-factor to our great game.
