Some cool tunes in here. Michael Bolton making his way through the rock, grunge, metal etc was a bit of a c-c-c-c-ombo breaker.

I pretty much have music on all through the day and listen to everything with the exception of maybe full on techno, and even then i've been known to pump it up if i'm in the right mood or running/working out etc.

A random song i stumbled across a few years back which just gets me everytime is Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd. I don't know if many people of my generation would know it but it's almost become my favourite Pink Floyd song as the years have gone by...well, almost. Anyway check it out. I'll post more as i think of them!

Great song. One of my favourites.

If you really want to feel like one of us old timers then you should watch the movie “The Wall”. Bob Geldof plays the lead character “Pink”. It is a movie like no other! o_O

8.1 on imdb. Will definitely check it out (y)
I will be interested in your review!

Getting back to music. A few years ago I heard the Scissor Sisters bastardise Comfortably Numb, and as a Pink Floyd fan I was furious at what they did with it. Then their version grew on me, and I like it too now, lol!

Really like Pink Floyd and that song... Was stoked to see one of the bands I love, Sons Of Apollo... do a cover of it not too long ago and with an Orchestra too. These guys are all phenomenal musicians and the drummer Mike Portnoy would probably be my most influential music figure, he's in so many of my favorite bands.

Must admit I haven't pulled out my playlists for quite a long time (5+ years) but am mostly a product of the era's I grew up listening to music reguarly (Ie 70's - 90's feature heavily) ... Rock'n'Roll, Hard Rock, Pop and and a few other genres ...

Got hundreds of songs I like and more than 50 artist's I like .... so could never come up with a top ten list let alone a top five ... all depends on the mood I'm in ...

I've always been a thematic person when it comes to what I will listen to at any given time ....

- might be raining etc and that reminds me of some songs ...
- then the sunshine appears and it reminds me of another set of songs ...
- then I might listen to some more from the same artists and again off I go on another tangent ....

Got so many songs that 3 - 4 hours later ... enjoyed the trip down memory lane and time for bed ...

As an example ... started the night with a movie theme .... haven't pulled out my hard drive chocked full of songs yet and was just going purely on memory ....

- The Power of One (Southland Concerto) ... not sure why but it stuck in my mind overnight so was my starting point ...
- Footloose (Kenny Loggins)
- Streets of Philadelphia (Bruce Springsteen)
- Greased Lightning (John Travolta)
- You're the one I want (Oliva Newton John)
- Born to be wild (Steppenwolf)
- Flashdance (Irene Cara)
- I've had the time of my life (Bill Medley, Jennifer Warnes)

Somehow sitting on a couple of Starship songs:

- We Built this city
- Nothings' gonna stop us now

Won't post links as it will chew up the site but just an example of my typical journey ... still going for the night and not even close to my all time fav's

I've been thinking :cautious:
If I had to pick one song, my most favourite, it would have to be a song that none of you have heard of (I'm pretty sure).
I'll explain why it's my favourite.
When I was knee high (about 60 years ago), my Dad only had 2, non-Belarus, 78 records in his collection of 15. They were Doris Day's "Que Sera Sera" and Nat King Cole's "Pretend". But the song I liked best at the time was on the flip side of "Pretend", called "You will never grow old".
Not sure why I liked so much then, but gee it brings back memories of my childhood days. This song also has very special memories, as I used to sing it to my daughter as a lullaby.

Tonight we reach the midway point of my top 5 personal favourite tracks of all time.

This next track was released in 1996.

I have seen the group that perform this track countless times but sadly will not be able to see them perform again with their frontman as he tragically took his own life last year. RIP Keith Flint!

Most of my favourite tracks are from the incredible album ‘The Fat of The Land’. I particularly enjoy ‘Smack My Bitch Up’ and ‘Firestarter’ but for me they don’t come close to my personal favourite.

At number 3 here’s The Prodigy with ‘Breathe’.

Time for another Original versus Cover. Who does it better?
The 1965 version an historical classic, but for me you can’t beat a bit of Aussie 80’s rock’n’roll!
The first time I have heard The Angel's version of "We've got to get out of this place" and I prefer their version. Smoother.

I'm definitely a Pink Floyd fan and you are right, I don't remember their 'Comfortably Numb' song. I have 2 of their LPs, "The Dark Side Of The Moon" and "Meddle".
I like it (y)

Wow that was different! Almost unrecognisable. I’ll admit it was tough to listen to lol but then again so was the original the first few times I heard it but it’s one that has grown on me over the years and now I’ve grown an understanding of what a masterpiece it is.

Really like Pink Floyd and that song... Was stoked to see one of the bands I love, Sons Of Apollo... do a cover of it not too long ago and with an Orchestra too. Very cool. That guitar solo was next level.

I don’t know Sons of Apollo actually, which is unusual for me because I’d like to think I know pretty much everyone. I’ll definitely check out more of their stuff.

The funny thing is I was never actually a fan of them growing up. I was familiar with their big hits but apart from that, never actually ‘listened’ to them.

Then one day at a party at my then girlfriend’s place, her parents and friends pulled out a guitar and started playing random songs and having a good old fashioned singalong.

One of the songs they played, which I didn’t know at the time blew me away and I had to ask what song it was and who sung it. Turns out it was Wish you were here and ever since that day I’ve been a Pink Floyd fan, which is how I stumbled across Comfortably Numb.

I couldn't have a top 5 without Paul Kelly. Not the Walkley Award Winner. Not the Brownlow Medal Winner. Not the Deputy Chief Health Officer. And Not the leader of the Five Points Gang, one of the last dominant street gangs in New York history.
But Australia's unofficial Poet Laureate.
As much as I love my playlist and pop the earphones in when I can I'm not a music nerd but simply hear a song I like and add it to the list. I have rarely been to concerts and festivals. But I can say I saw Paul Kelly at the Palais and his stage presence was even better than his songs. There were quite a few tears when he sang this song and so it is my 4th offering to the community. On a side note I was sitting next to Heidi Miller Heidke.

Unfortunately I don't like his tribute to Bradman.
