The words in the media about Warne calling Waugh selfish are interesting.
In short points:
Warne is right.
Warne is a twat.
I never liked Waugh, and always thought he played for his place in history over what was best for the team.
My mates really used to get into me about my opinion on Waugh, but he demonstrated his priority time, and time again.
This I haven't checked, but I believe in batting partnerships with McGrath, McGrath outscored Waugh, and he was a bunny.
I'd love to compare the Waugh/McGrath partnerships with the Hussey/McGrath partnerships!

Thanks @iron

Thanks @Ironhawk,
So one averaged 13, the other 50.
It would be interesting to see the break up of who scored the runs in those partnerships!

If I have time, I might do that manually later.
If you click the links I provided, the scorecard for each of the innings they played together is linked there. I didn't look into it in detail, but you'll get a rough idea based on McGrath's score how many Waugh/Hussey would have got in the partnership (you won't know how many extras were scored during that partnership). Didn't look great from Waugh from a quick look, McGrath scored more than half the runs in a few innings I looked at.

Glen McGraths batting record:
138 innings, 51 not outs, 641 runs @7.36
140 partnerships, totalling 1,886 runs @ 13.47 per partnership, so not outs not included.
McGrath contributed 33.99% of the runs to his career partnerships.

With Steve Waugh
19 partnerships, totalling 252 runs, averaging 13.26, McGrath contributed 114 of those runs, or 45.2%
Unfortunately the records prior to 1997 don't tell you the over count when the wickets fell.
This affects the first 7 Waugh/McGrath partnerships.
In the 12 where we know how many balls the partnership lasted we have:
Average number of balls partnership lasted 26.33
Average score of those partnerships 16.50, of which McGrath averaged contributing 7.50 (45.4%)
Average number of balls faced in partnership: McGrath 15.58 (59.2%), Waugh 10.75 (40.8%).
If Waugh was batting for the team, he'd have the lions share of the strike.

Let's look at the opposite end of the scale!

With Adam Gilchrist
7 partnerships, totalling 194 runs, averaging 27.71, McGrath contributed 8 of those runs, or 4.12%
Average number of balls partnership lasted 26.57
Average number of balls faced in partnership: McGrath 10.71 (40.3%), Gilchrist 15.86 (59.7%)

Gilchrist averaged batting with McGrath the same amount of balls per partnerships as Waugh.
The difference was, Gilly took 60% of the strike, and they scored at 1.04 runs/ball.
Waugh took 40% of the strike, and they scored at 0.63 runs/ball

Gilly - 60% of the strike, and personally scored at around 1.68/ball
Waugh - 40% of the strike, and personally scored at around 0.84/ball - exactly half Gilly.
One protected the strike, and got on with it. One waited around trying to get the red ink!
