Viney not a keeper for me. Hoping for two 100s to make a quick 100k.

I remember doing the same thing a few years ago for Papley after he had two good scores on the bubble. In terms of cash generation, similar result and in a shorter season like this, a quick $100k is very valuable.

Am I mad to consider passing on Gawn for now?
No if your initial strategy did not have him in the team, it will be hard to get him in now.

You obviously picked an R2 you thought could score reasonably well whilst you used your cash elsewhere. For me Naismith scored well enough in R1 to wait and see in two more weeks. Expected to lose points on Gawn V Naismith before I made the trade, and make some money. That equation still holds true - now Naismith just has a head start.

I will be taking the risk and assessing the ruck stocks in 2 more weeks time. At worst, you are likely to lose a few points and make some money, as even if Gawn holds value your R2 presumably scored well in Rd 1 (most did) and will make some cash.

ditto... except I'm switching NicNat to Jacobs and leaving Naismith at R3... didn't like what I saw from NicNat at all, admittedly it was against Gawn but HTA and TOG were lower than what I wanted

Huge call - I was pondering if NicNat could potentially break in to the ultimate complete team with shortened quarters, etc. However, didn't watch him closely round 1, will defer to your better judgement on that!

Wouldn't mind your views on Kelly - I didn't love what I saw there, feel like sideways trading for a Mitchell type who I was 50/50 on pre season and now with the added break should be firing.

BTW I’m likely to grab Gawn and place Naismith at R3. The prospect of not owning Gawn during that 4 week stretch of Pittonet/TBC/Fort/Naismith scares me far too much.

Seems generally all rucks are underpriced and mids are generally overpriced with the shorter games. Wait and see approach would’ve been nice but in a season like this you’ve gotta just make the decisions quickly and trust your gut.

I may be thinking about the extremes but I’m not ruling out 180-200s from Gawn over the next month. If that’s the case, he’s arguably a “value selection” at $700k :ROFLMAO:

One of the reasons I’m getting Viney in for the Bont is for the cash we so I can fix holes in my team and then hoping to sell him with a profit in 2-3 weeks

You don’t actually “make” the quick 100k unless you trade him out.

How many people getting in Viney will actually be trading him out within a month? I reckon there will be bigger fish to fry by then, and you’ll be left with a list clogger

Be amazed if those getting him in trade him out in round 4 or 5, which seems to be the target range.

Most will then be looking at downgrade/upgrade options to try and get to a complete team as quick as possible. Leaving Viney at M6, then M7 and then M8. Ultimate trap!

Could be beneficial at round 4 or 5 if a Cripps/Fyfe goes down in the same week, can then make two sideways trades and make some cash - but we don't plan for that scenario.

I'll make a bold call and say Naismith will be up on points going into the round 5 matchup.

I’m not sure what other trades there would be to make in R4? Usually rookies aren’t fattened by then so I don’t think I’ll be stuck with him. If he was being traded in during upgrade season I would be inclined to agree.
