Hope he did win something to wipe the sorrow of getting so close to the SC title and prizemoney.

It's skinking in now. Hawks are premier and for first time in history overtaken Richmond on premiership count.

Hawks now have won 11 Premierships.
Richmond still stuck on 10
Geelong 9 I think snapping at their heels as a club for more flags.

Melbourne still have more flags than those clubs and remain on 12.
Amazingly been stuck on the number since well before most of us born.

Richmond on the up&up though and will surely have one coming in the next few years.

I'm not so convinced but in an 18 team league anything can happen. People said the same thing of St.Kilda many times in last decade and a bit but it never happened. The only thing I feel sure of is Gold Coast and GWS hold the best cards in the deck for most of the remaining decade. However, even that is no guarantee they will surely win flags. Got more chances than majority of clubs though.

To be honest i like our chance for top 4 next year. Were better then most teams. Plus theres the teams who are going to go backwards collingwood, blues maybe even Sydney and geelong. So theres at least 2 teams to replace in the 8 plus i would put port as missing. Tigers are going to be very hard to beat next year and years to come.

I doubt Geelong will go backwards nor will Hawthorn. Freo and the Swans possibly. Collingwood should make the top 4 next year; WEagles and Crows could be flying again. A lot of competition there.

Hard to see Swans going backwards. They ran out of gas this season but their midfielders are young and only likely to get better.

Geelong will have some retirements but Motlop, Christensen. Caddy and many of their young up and comers should improve and learning in a great culture. The fact the are willing to retire off good players shows they are confident in the development of the younger players coming up.

Out of the top 4 the Hawks are just as likely as any to go a little backwards but that just may be from 1st to 4th...lol

I think the heat is more on the sides from 5th to 8th to keep improving and not fall backwards as plenty of teams outside the top 8 could jump up.
North and Gold Coast could easily improve in leaps and bounds and steal one of those spots from a team like Richmond that made it this year.
No guarantees on how it will all pan out.

I hear you on Gold Coast and GWS but i don't think it's the gold pass it's been made out to be, just look at Melbourne over the last 10 years, top draft picks + priority picks that aren't even on the table anymore and they're still hitting rock bottom. Compare that to Geelong who've created a dynasty on no more opportunity than anyone else!

As soon as the Franklin to Swans news broke, SCS website went into meltdown. I had trouble connecting and reconnecting for nearly 40mins.

North Melb.
Probably a bit closer to when SuperCoach release positions as I have a feeling there will be some changes.
When did we start to get word on that last year? Was there one made before draft day? I remember vaguely entering "rookie" instead of players names....

Yes :).
Reckon you'll see another one in next decade? Hard to see you getting your 2nd flag before Freo, Gold Coast or GWS join you on one.
Freo no doubt are well ahead of us with their window well and truly open. We are Anthony Miles ahead of GWS esp with the latest on Shiel and Adams wanting out and I would say either level or just belo GSC. This o***eason is a crucial one for us and how we recruit will dictate how long our rebuild takes.

As poor as out history may seem it actually is not that bad especially in the last 20 years. We may have obviously not won a flag or even made a GF but we have had our chances and been in situation where we lost as opposed to being beaten. A bit of luck and it could be very different. We were also very unlucky that in our last assault we had to compete with a side that some would regard as the greatest ever or close to it. In fact Geelong were also our blocker in the early 90's lol

With SC gone ill go into more detail

1992 - 2nd (equal 1st) Lost Prelim to Geelong
1994 - 5th Lost Semi final to Melbourne. Also the season of the famous Brownless goal
1995 - 7th Lost Qualifying final to Geelong
1997 - 3rd Lost Prelim to Adelaide by 2 points :(
1998 - 2nd Lost Prelim to Adelaide ***
1999 - 4th Chocked to Eagles by 5 points then lost in the Semi to the Lions
2000 - 7th Lost Elimination final to Brisbane
2005 - 9th Missed finals by 2 points
2006 - 8th Lost Semi to Eagles
2008 - 3rd Lost Prelim to Geelong
2009 - 3rd Lost Prelim to St Kilda by 7
2010 - 4th Lost Prelim to St Kilda

So thats 11 Finals series and 6 Prelims since 1992. The Adelaide one in 97 as we know was the heart breaker 28 points up at 3 qtr time. 2009 we were mighty close. For a club of our size it's a pretty good record. And when you look at the shape we are in vs St Kilda we are looking pretty good.
