My suggestion to the AFL would be to play eg Round 6 over 2 weekends.

1st Weekend - Ess v Melbourne + 4 other games

2nd Weekend - the remaining 5 games

Depending on whether the SA/WA Government is allowing teams in with or without the 14 isolation period you could then set up all/some of the teams in the SA/WA hubs when they complete Round 5.

Saves messing around with a mid week game.

As for how that affects the scoring for a fantasy game , I think their are a lot more important things to worry about.

From memory I think years ago the season opened with 1-2 games and the remaining games were played the following weekend.

There is no fair solution.

Teams will be disadvantaged no matter what they decide.

We just have to cop the decision and move on!
Yeah, it is what it is.

It sets a precedent though. I doubt this is the last time this happens so I guess we’ll just have random byes to premos going forward.

I don’t believe that we have heard the end of this.

The AFL not only made a decision very early to cut the season to 17 rounds but also left it open to go well beyond September. In addition, they are only releasing the fixture In four week blocks.

It might be a day or two away before they tell us plebs, but I think they have thought about this exact scenario that has just happened.

Pushing out the Grand Final by a week, which is about all the leeway they have.

At this stage the AFL hope to run the rest of the season as normal, will have to put an extra week in which will be postponed fixtures and byes to accommodate quarantining. However, Victoria is making the fixture very complicated, to put it nicely.

Gill has been pretty open saying they have up until December to complete the season if necessary (T20 World Cup unlikely to be a factor now) so like you said I am sure they have had many contingency plans up their sleeves (well you would hope so)

Understand why they have gone in blocks of 4 for the fixtures , gives them flexibity.

Things are changing day by day all the time , but I am sure they would want clarity from both the SA & WA governments sooner rather than later , must be difficult dealing with multiple state government which all have differing rules and regulations.

They also have to follow protocols from the Government and Health Department so I am sure once they get all the test results back and talk to the relevant people they will let us know.

Why only a week ? Thought they still could use November & December if necessary.

Hindsight is wonderful but probably should have started the season in 3-4 seperate hubs in QLD , SA , TAS & WA.

Are most of the recent cases in Victoria from returning OS travellers ?

100% they have. I’d heard along the grape vine from a couple of players and parents of players that prior to the season starting everyone was made aware that if/when a positive test occurred, that the measures were in place for the season not to be halted. So will be interesting to see how it plays out for the Bombers over the next day or two.

What is your views on my assessment of this round vs the 2x round for the Essendon + Demons players?

Those without them have to make a questionable choice of burning more trades early with rookie culling. That could leave them short on full premo by the back end. The only player of those two teams as a logical target is Gawn in my view.

Whilst it may look dodgy at this part of the season, It could benefit them coming home. In the end those who make compromised trades to target more of those players end up floundering away with injured players and non premo's they can't cover and be run down.

(y) Thumbs up to the AFL Organisers for staging AFL games in this chaotic Covid-19 period and for having contingency plans for various possible scenarios.

(n) Thumbs down to the SuperCoach Organisers for NOT having any contingency plans and not including them in the rules. It would have helped us in our strategy, saved the chaos last night and clear up what is going to happen with the players points.

Could someone clarify a few questions please:

If I haven't used my Captain yet (was on Gawn), can I leave it on Gawn to get my VC score as Captain? Or should I not risk it and simply put the C on someone who hasn't played yet?

No option ideal for me. Only got 96 for my VC (Mitchell), but not many solid options left yet to play (really only Laird, or maybe Rowell ???).

Finally, if I leave the C on Gawn, would that affect me getting Pittonet's score (have him at R3)?

Thanks in advance.
