1. Starc + Buda/Brown > Whitfield + Rookie (Aarts?)

2. Pitto + Rowell > Gawn + Rookie (Aarts?)

These are the next 2 weeks trades I'm thinking of.

Any one think of a reason to do the Gawn trade first?
Doing the Gawn trade first would give me the option of Buda + Brown, and keep Starc

* usual disclaimer re who is named etc.

Can do:

Starcevich > Ridley
Rowell > Yeo

Leaves approx 2k ITB.

Ridley’s convinced me but not so much Yeo. Surely he’ll be better back home? Like everyone, struggling a bit with cash generation and likely looking to offload Pittonet soon for Grundy/Goldy (already have Gawn).

Perhaps better to grab Ridley & a rookie - but will sacrifice points by doing so.

Thoughts appreciated.

Some of next years pricing will be out of whack anyway with the shorter quarters, shorter seasons, hubs etc.
Would imagine it would still be based on season average but the Ablett "added tax" rule may apply to anyone they wish to apply it too.

If you said to me at the start of the season that by Rd6 I could trade Rowell and Bewley to Whitfield and Yeo and it would only cost me $80-90k I would have taken it and run.. so probably what I am gonna do..?

As tempting as it is to get rid of a Viney, Rozee or Redman...

My exact trade.
Was tempted by Berry but as eluded, Lions have lotsa mids hoarding lotsa points plus Zork to return.
Ridley looks the real deal.
Wish I grabbed him last week.

1 up 1 down doesn’t seem to bad with not many rookies being announced, I’m too not yet convinced with Yeo might give it another week or when he starts playing at home

Like the Greenwood pick, I myself considering him or Petracca at this stage

My trade plans this week is
Rowell to Ridley
Brown to Greenwood/Petracca

A lot of love for Greenwood ..... understand why by the numbers but he is 28 years old, a tackiling machine and now $500k + .... still trying to work out who comes in .... Flanders, Sharp etc

- Below $500k I was interested ... got lots of competition at that price point now this year ...

Considering Rowell is out for a while, I moved him to the bench to be used at a later date.

This allowed me to cash in 2 rookies:

Considering the Senior omissions at the tigers, we may see Marlion Pickett back sooner than people think.

Interestingly no mention of Riley Collier-Dawkins even though he was mentioned during Dimma's press conference

Let me help you with Yeo. This time last year he averaged 85, and went at 120 ave for the rest of the year to ave 108, (2017 he was 101 after 5 and finished on 108) so he appears to start slow and work his way into the year. Currently averaging 84, plays the hapless Crows who give up plenty of big scores, then has 4-6 weeks in Perth where he averages 105 over his career. On top of that he’s $109k cheaper than he started, so you are maxing out your value by getting him cheap. With money hard to come by this year, buying smart is going to be key.

I'm shocked at the lack of Shiel in this thread. He seems a no-brainer to look at - 6th in overall average and $50k-100k less than the other options, with a manageable BE even. What am I missing?
I’ve had a look at him.

Certainly his average makes him look an enticing prospect but with scores of 163, 96, 81 and 156, it’s hard to know what you’re going to get from here on in.

Were the two massive scores outliers or were the two sub-100 scores outliers?

He has averaged over 100 in a season just once and that was back in 2015 so is he the real deal this season or fool’s gold?

The first part of this is a good argument for buying him.

The second part almost confirms for me you should wait a week - buying smart is going to be the key? So I would be better off missing his first big score, whilst his breakeven is 98, and seeing that he still can go big. I then would pick him up at a similar price, as he isn't going up much, and a very low breakeven.
If he fails this week, against the hapless crows as you put it, then I would likely not want him anyway? I dodge a bullet

Dont mind this move of moving on rookies before they drop in price and saving Rowell for later. Obviously can only work if people have bench cover.

Pickett is a certainty to be back this week and to knock out a 100 because I traded him last week

- Coming into his 9th season (aged 27)
- Highest average EVER only 103 (back in 2015)
- Averaged 97 last year (relatively low ceiling)

For $566k, you'd be wanting at least a 105+ average from here on out, which is definitely possible, but doesn't necessarily seem a value option.
