GIANTS NEWS

Monster efforts today from big name defenders Luke Ryan and James Sicily appears to have swung momentum slightly in favour of The Giants, in what shapes as a POSSIBLE historic first ever victory for the club.

Monday night footy will be an extremely stressful watch for Giants coach Tim Goodman, who will be following the movements of Timelords defender Callum Wilkie like a hawk. The Giants hold a 127 point lead, with Wilkie the only player to come.

In what is frightening for Giants fans, Wilkie's previous two scores are 113 and 119, with the defender building into some nice scoring form since the season restart. It will take a career high score from Wilkie to get the Timelords over the line, however nothing can be ruled out in the current climate.
A blunder by Giants media and the league statistician in calculating the Giants score, with Tom Lynch of the RIC variety's score being removed (due to formula and Footywire coding). Subsequently, The Giants hold a 97 point lead over the Timelords, with Tom Lynch of the ADE variety to come for the Giants, and Callum Wilkie to come for the Timelords.

Ahh, the old "I didn't like that Tom Lynch so now I'm taking the other Tom Lynch" trick! ;)

Huge effort @Connoisseur and commiserations, nearly beat me with two donuts. Only a mammoth effort from Jack “paid 300k too much” Steele saved me from embarrassment.

Only a 20 odd pt margin in the end, think if you played Acres you would’ve actually won!
My fault for selecting T Rockliff onfield Thursday night assuming he might return, rather than playing B Acres/S Mayes etc. Very pleased with my side (considering a poor C score and 2 donuts) largely thanks to the efforts of S Higgins, L Parker, C Petracca and T Doedee. Hopefully can welcome back T Stewart soon enough and remove an onfield donut.

Madness and chaos erupt across the universe as the Immortals fans celebrate their first win!!

But some remain smooth and cool. In far away land, long time Immortals fan Christopher Walken hears news of the maiden victory. He does a little dance in quiet satisfaction...

TailsPower team is still in the market again this week looking for Mid / Fed depth coverage ....

- About to hit the sack and take my usual end of week break ....
- Don't think I'll be back online until Wed evening but can't see any players that interest me until the Thursday deadline ....
- Open to all possible options though ... got a bit of cash left burning a hole in my pocket and plenty of contract years ...

Goodie's Giants FC

Huge relief at GFG this morning after the club held on for an impressive first ever victory against the Arcadia Timelords, running away victors by 155 points to snap a 4 game losing streak. Tim Taranto was a welcome addition to the midfield, freeing up Bailey Smith to spend more time in the forward 50. Brodie Grundy continues to go it alone in the ruck, with coach Goodman desperately hoping to see Tom Bellchambers return in the place of Andrew Phillips, or even better still exciting prospect Sam Draper be given a debut. Noah Anderson continues to impress in his debut season with the youngster playing a crucial role in The Giants midfield, and hard nut Jack Graham has returned to the side in fantastic form.

A Round 7 clash with the Neptune Knights awaits The Giants this weekend, where the Knights will be reeling after a loss to ladder leaders Jordan's Jets FC. If The Giants can string together back to back victories here, a surprise finals birth may still be on the cards should the team play well during the condensed fixtures taking place during The Festival of Fantasy (Rounds 10 - 18).

Dare I ask what’s the initial thinking re the condensed fixtures....?

Some of those lockout turnarounds seem really tight.... would it be possible to have the excel sheet released in advance midway through a round...?
Ken and I discussing, we've had some initial plans in place a long time ago expecting the season to turn like this.

We'll finalise our plan of attack and inform everyone ASAP, by and large we won't be as badly impacted as normal SC as we can manipulate which rounds we utilise certain AFL teams scores from for respective UL league fixtures. There's a base strategy which we have been employing for the past 4 seasons in our other KL that with tweaking will still work with these bizarre fixtures we are facing.

In terms of team submission docs, yes we will definitely be getting these out well before the rounds as they come thick and fast, we will endeavour to clearly outline which rounds scores relate to UL rounds as well. Bare with us, even though it may be confusing Ken and I will be on top of the fixture issues. :)

@Goodie's Guns @KLo30 it sounds like you are all over it ... you might be one step ahead of regular SC!

Would it be possible to have the prior round’s selections carry over by default (ie coaches go in with an unchanged 22, C etc unless they make changes in the sheet)?

Edit: I think it just eases the time pressure on everyone. Might be helpful through this new fixture in particular.

WHO IS a chance to play in round seven?

In this week's In the Mix, brought to you by the Toyota WorkHorse Range, we find the players who are giving their selectors plenty of food for thought.

Who's going out, who's sore, who is under the pump? Our reporters attempt to pick all the R7 ins. Check it out.

With no fresh injury concerns and buoyed by the win against Arcadia Timelords to kickstart the campaign, it would appear The Giants match committee won't be making too many changes this week, if any, for their clash against the Neptune Knights. Billy Frampton who was removed as an emergency last week for the omitted Jay Lockhart will be in the mix for a recall to that position, as will Darcy Fogarty who could return from his shoulder injury. Defender Riley Bonner looks set to remain on the outer as youngster Will Day continues to impress.

Verdict: Hard to change a winning team, expect The Giants to go with the same 22. - Marc McGowan

To facilitate the completion of round 2 of SCS Ultimate League, the scores from this AFL round 8 will substitute for the missing Essendon v Melbourne game.

As Essendon and Melbourne aren't scheduled to meet before the completion of the SCS Ultimate League regular season and given both teams have relatively healthy team lists, and resting is unlikely to be an issue this round, the decision was taken to ensure as much fairness as practical was obtained in the league's outcomes.

It was noted that Dylan Shiel is suspended, however given the current margin between the two teams, and the fact a decent emergency score was available, this was very unlikely to change the overall result.

SCSUL Statement.png

With the AFL running with a condensed fixture of 33 games in 20 days, the SCS Ultimate League will structure the fixture in the following manner.
1595407624216.png

The rounds leading up the half way mark of the season and trade deadline will comprise:
  • Round 8 will follow the AFL round 9 fixture
  • Round 9 will follow the AFL round 10 fixture plus the WCE/CAR & FRE/HAW games from AFL round 11

The FESTIVAL OF FANTASY period begins with:
  • Rounds 10,11 & 12 will follow the AFL round 11 fixture plus the GWS/SYD game from AFL round 12
  • Rounds 13,14 & 15 will follow the AFL round 12 fixture

Rounds 16,17 & 18 and Finals will be determined once the AFL release their rounds 13-18 fixture.

NB. Much thanks goes out to fixture guru Goodie's Guns for his work on the SCSUL fixture.

Got to toss it out there (and be honest) but how are "suspended" players treated ... Ie "Long" ... suspended for round 9 .... but likely to play in round 10 ... do I get a potential lucky break or will the suspension still hold !!

"Round 9 will follow the AFL round 10 fixture plus the WCE/CAR & FRE/HAW games from AFL round 11"

Edit: Also applies to current short term injured players as well so will probably balance out ... and not be worth tinkering with ... I can over think some situations at times :(
