Was considering ruck combinations and thought of macintosh, sandilands (yes injury history is not good but if he can average 90+ would be a bargain because he will start cheapish) with currie and Mcbean on the bench and have nic nat in the forward line so there is cover during the bye rounds and if sandi goes down permanently (fair chance) I can upgrade him or put nic nat there for good. Not scared so much given what luenberger did last season but there is cover having nic nat there
Personally I see a the Sandi/McIntosh situation vastly different to the Leunberger situation last year.

Sandi has had 2-3 years suffering from the same iinjury McIntosh has only played a hand full of games in the last 3 years. And further more I see them as different types of injuries.

They (Sandilands and McIntosh),would need to have outstanding preseasons with no signsnofninjury re-occurance for me to pick either in my starting team.

Sandilands is a maybe, but McIntoch would have to do something extra ordinary between now.and the season for him to be considered.

At this stage I might pick one of them, but no way will I be selecting both.

I agree. Picking one suspect player is ok but having 2 of them of the same position is extremely risky.
Preseason will answer all our questions, any injuries to Sandi or Ham will mean a no for me.

Yes that's the problem with sandi is if it's going to happen again, I'm not sold on doing this idea though but it is something I'm considering if they both are injury free and moving fine when round 1 comes. Given macintosh has had the year off from playing AFL football I think he may be more likely to be underdone and a sub risk if Geelong are catious about easing him back into it given how long he has been out for

There's also Rhys Stanley. If he plays, would St Kilda play their two Ruckmen as well?
They're grooming him to be a KPD (though he may make the switch forward). Don't think that he is too proficient a ruck.

Forward-line coach Adam Kingsley:

“It’s well documented that we needed another tall defender to compete with the monsters of the AFL so we played Rhys down back for most of the pre-season and he competed well in games.

He was pretty good on the whole as a defender but probably part-way through the season we moved him forward. We were just plugging holes down back but he is best forward and that’s where his future lies.

I guess with the new interchange rules if Stanley plays forward, he will be ideal to pinch hit in the Ruck.
Longer hasn't shown anything playing in the forward line at Brissy so far so a question mark there.

I do remember him playing well up forward in 2012 so that's good for the Saints (who desperately need some young KPF's to step up).
Agree here, I reckon he'd be hard to match up too, standing at 200cm. He just turned 23 and IMO has a lot of potential. I'm worried that the time spent in defence might have effected his development as a KPF, unfortunately, but I may be wrong :)

This would be ideal in my opinion too. I remember reading that the Saints were impressed with Longer's ability to go forward... Hickey showed next to nothing up forward, so playing both, alongside Stanley, wouldn't be ideal.

Yeah I do think he has a lot of potential as well. I wouldn't be too worried about his forward development being stunted by playing KPD. If anything the time spent down back will teach him how to better position himself as a forward (it helped Cameron Mooney for one).

StKilda is building a strong foundation so a lot of hope for the Saints fans.

Yeah, good point. The guy can also run, exciting player if he reaches his potential.

Nic Nat and Cox Ruck only certainly makes it a difficult choice for coaches this year.

I am taking a punt on a fit Nic Nat to fire up like 2012. Cox is aging and Nic Nat is almost at the prime for rucks. has the ability to kill it. personally, a fully fit nic nat is better then goldy and minson just because of how athletic and mobile (for a ruckman).

I agree NicNat is an absolute bargain for next year. Unfortunately he won't have DPP, which means I'll probably be skipping on Sandilands.
