I think I'll hold off on it, it will get me 56k and whatever extra points Titch scores over Pickett this week, if I knew that Rivers was playing I'd probably do the trade but I think I should get some cover there and pocket 43k instead.
It's possible 4 of the last 8 rounds are best 18. Cover not a big deal this year.

Yeah thats a good point, but it could also only be 2 and it's hard to know. Not sure of Sholl's job security anyway so unless Pickett goes 80+ I think I'll make the slingshot trade, JKelly is liable to miss one more game as it is due to an injury.

Annoyingly have to lock in all my trades prior to the Fremantle side being confirmed.

Who do we think could be the outs for Freo with Hill and Aish confirmed as ins?

I'm hoping Duman? Colyer? Fredricks? Crowden? Would they all be out before Watson?
@freowho any chance you could shed a brief bit of light on this? Hate having to make all my trades prior to you guys announcing your side. But just cannot find another way around it.

I don't have the pay tv so hardly get to see them play but isn't Watson playing as a tall defender? Wouldn't have thought Hill or Aish would affect him.

Anyone considering a gawn to Draper and two 230-240k rookies to top premium mids? Let me know ASAP? Need help with this one. Just can’t see cash gen from anyone other than Draper

I really want to bring Taylor Adams in but I am a little concerned about his injury history. Should that be a genuine concern during the compressed fixture? Pies fans?

I'm not worried about it, but am leaning towards Treloar either way...

Firstly, let me start off with a few observations of your current R10 team.
  • Pretty much non existence bench with 6 x $102K players
  • Only 13 Keepers despite using 22 trades - How many of those 13 were in your starting team...?
  • You have a real lack of the core 1st or 2nd waves of Rookies
This has lead me to believe that you started with a lot of those $102K players, purely as a cheapest bench options. Your trading looks to me to be mostly centred around swapping your on-field 22 from week to week. There is a real lack of focus (or no focus at all if I was to be blunt) on starting or trading in 'cash generating' Rookies. The combination of these factors has lead you to where your team current sit, and unfortunately in a shortened season, there's not much rounds/trades left to bring it to satisfactory completion.

Upon digesting your team and trying to understand/predict how you've been going about it with regards to your strategy, I thought about 2 options which I could offer: 1) Continue adopting a 'Best 22' approach by treating those players as a revolving door from round to round or 2) Try and get some cash generation into your team, plus getting some bench coverage. I decided to proceed with Option 2 as this will lead you to hopefully enjoy the remainder of your SC experience for 2020.

Please see below for my suggested trades over the next 2 rounds. This will enable you to field 22 in a Best 18 scenario for R11 and a reasonable 22 from R12 onwards with some bench coverage, plus you'll have some cash generating players to help you to upgrade without the need for swapping players in & out.

Post R12 with 6 trades and minimal cash ITB, you basically have 2 path forward in regards to how you want to bring your team to completion. I've highlight your R12 Keepers, of which there are 15. Going the traditional route (1 downgrade + 1 upgrade) will increase your Keepers to 18. Another option is to trade out 1 of your high priced Keeper and a max out Rookie to get 2 'value' Keepers. For example, trading out Neale & Pickett for a Gaff & Boak types or trading out Petracca & Aarts for Simpkin & BSmith. The latter approach will hopefully give you 21 Keepers.

I stress that this is but one suggestion from one set of eyes and the intent is merely to provide you with one possible pathway forward. Ultimately it's your decision on how you choose to proceed but I would advise strongly on immersing yourself more to the numerous threads we have going on this site to get some ideas and thoughts on what 'other' coaches are planning and thinking with regards to their trades.

One further advise I would like to provide whilst I'm at it is to start as many PLAYING Rookies as you can in your starting team as they are the essential building blocks to your SC season. Plan and use your trades with a focus on 'increasing' the number of Keepers on your team and avoid swapping Keepers as much as practical. By adopting these 2 simple rules, I'm confident that you'll find SC'ing much more enjoyable.

Hope that helps to focus your thinking on what you need to do from hereon and that the season will end on a better note for you. Keep on reading what other coaches have to say on this forum and you'll find yourself an expert in no time (read post #182 just above mine...Thanks @Frank (y)). I look forward to tracking your progress for the many years ahead...

Thank you and yes your intial thoughts on what i was planning was correct. i didnt think of where my team would be later in the season but more of the current round.

I now completely understand that rookies are essential to building a team. and in the 2021 season ill use the knowledge ive gained this year to destroy my H2H( and hopefully get a good rating)

Ill use this kind of plan that youve shown me for my next rounds and hopefully will be able to carry it on as best as i can.
i dont know what i wouldve done without you guys (and you especially) with your strategies, advice and thoughts.
So this is also my big thank you to you and everyone else who has helped me from round to round this season

What do you mean by balance?
Yeah, I realise that was vague. And more general than the discussion that you were having with @pizza safety

I meant a number of things, but mainly that we should be thinking about what the byes might look like with our specific teams and the balance we can manage over the field and specific lines. We don't know who of the remaining 10 teams will have the bye at the same time, but we can limit the potential carnage with how we structure our lines and their our benches, dual position players etc. In a simple sense, balance doesn't preclude cover, if our players, including bench players, have already had byes... and or are DPP... etc. Of course selection and injury are as always out of our control... but even then there are elements of that we can consider in a year that is more difficult than ever to negotiate. It also includes value, for example, but I reckon we're all on top of that.

For me and the way I'm planning, it means having a number of players on every line that have had a bye, at the same time as not picking players just because they've had the bye... one example of balance. Just because Fyfe has had his bye, doesn't make him any more durable for example, despite his high ceiling.

Overall I mean to say that within the concept of balance I think cover on a number of levels, including bench players, durability, flexibility, is especially important with best 18 Rounds.

I guess all these things are always important in SC, but the variables are multiplied and obscure this year, and a balanced team is more important than ever. Anyway... Don't know how much sense I've made of it, and probably could have explained it in fewer words, but that's my extrapolated and extemporaneous version.
