I am thinking the Big O is gaining in popularity even more as I type this.

Nice little $$$ to spend.
Also jumping on. It's 2020 so why not?
2020:
McInerney:
0-5 Disposals: 38.75 from 4
6+: 105.83 from 6

O McInerney:
HTA: 47/165

4 matches in 2020 with 5+ HTA= 132 + 123 + 91 + 128 = Avg of 118.5
2 of those 4 have occurred in the past 2 rounds.

Yeah, I realise that was vague. And more general than the discussion that you were having with @pizza safety

I meant a number of things, but mainly that we should be thinking about what the byes might look like with our specific teams and the balance we can manage over the field and specific lines. We don't know who of the remaining 10 teams will have the bye at the same time, but we can limit the potential carnage with how we structure our lines and their our benches, dual position players etc. In a simple sense, balance doesn't preclude cover, if our players, including bench players, have already had byes... and or are DPP... etc. Of course selection and injury are as always out of our control... but even then there are elements of that we can consider in a year that is more difficult than ever to negotiate. It also includes value, for example, but I reckon we're all on top of that.

For me and the way I'm planning, it means having a number of players on every line that have had a bye, at the same time as not picking players just because they've had the bye... one example of balance. Just because Fyfe has had his bye, doesn't make him any more durable for example, despite his high ceiling.

Overall I mean to say that within the concept of balance I think cover on a number of levels, including bench players, durability, flexibility, is especially important with best 18 Rounds.

I guess all these things are always important in SC, but the variables are multiplied and obscure this year, and a balanced team is more important than ever. Anyway... Don't know how much sense I've made of it, and probably could have explained it in fewer words, but that's my extrapolated and extemporaneous version.
I think the basics stay the same and I agree that just because someone has had their bye doesn't make them a great pick. Trying to build a good team is still the priority. But I think less rounds, more trades, shorter games, more volatilty in the scoring and more bye rounds to come should allow for some tweaks to game style. For example, the captains hat aside, I would normally consider the top 3 or 4 forwards and defenders as more valuable than the top 3 or 4 mids because they separate themselves from others on their line by a bigger margin. But with possibly half our remaining rounds left being best 18 I think the best mids are now more valuable because they are simply higher scorers.
I also think there might have been room in the past for 1, maybe 2 slingshots. This year I think 3 or 4 or maybe 5 would be a good way to gain an advantage. I've almost finished my team (although it is puss) and I have 8 trades left. I have Doedee at D6, Serong at M8 Witts at R2 and TJLynch at F6. I'm going to sit on my trades for the next 2 rounds and then slingshot the hell out of the byes knowing there are only 2 weeks after that.

Yeah, I agree. I think we are on the same page. Building a good team is always the priority. Your slingshot approach is a good example of one way to approach this year and be flexible.

It's an interesting conversation. I think your comment just sparked my thinking. Your point re. mids and forwards is interesting as well, as I had been thinking the other way around - ie that the mid rookies have generally been more reliable than defender or forward rookies. Also, that this year there are only about three or four at best really reliable Premo mids that are likely to churn out regular higher scores - But you've got me thinking...

This is all that I love about this game - is the strategy. That's why these discussions, however they are sparked and wherever they go, are helpful.

Outs: Bennell, Starcevich, Bewley
Ins: Ruscoe, Schoenberg, Tom Mitchell

Not sure how to take Gawn out. Hopefully the break will help him, but I suspect it may take longer to heal properly.

Keep Gawn-
Out: B Starcevich, C Budarick, T Rivers, In: H Schoenberg, T Watson and S Draper
View attachment 19646 View attachment 19647
H Bennell/S Simpson and M Ling/B Williams to S Wicks and Z Williams in RD12.

Trade Gawn-
Out: M Gawn, B Starcevich, C Budarick
In: S Draper, H Andrews, N Fyfe
View attachment 19648 View attachment 19649
RD12- C Serong to M9 unless Dusty goes to the fwd line and Rozee to F7. Serong and Simpson cash can be used to move Draper to R3 if I decide to get Gawn back or Goldy or even facilitate a Yeo to Neale trade.

Out: M Gawn, C Budarick, S Simpson
In: O McInenrey, S Draper, L Neale

Finally grab L Neale and C Serong moves to M9 in RD11 unless I switch D Martin to the fwd line and bench Rozee to field Serong.

Out: M Gawn, B Starcevich, C Budarick
In: O McInerney, S Draper, Z Williams

Allows S Simpson and H Bennell to N Fyfe/L Parker and S Wicks next round.
2 trades down and 1 to go.
Out: M Gawn and C Budarick

After breaking Gawn, I'm very tempted to break Neale for everybody via a Simpson trade but will likely grab Fyfe via Starceivch which should allow Simpson and Bennell to Williams and Wicks next round.

Ok I'm now moving Gawn to Goldy and doing another 2 downgrades and hoping to grab Walters and 1 of Greenwood/Petracca next depending on how much cash Geodude and Pickett can make this round.
Gawn>Goldstein
Starcevic>Sholl
Bennell>Schoenberg

Viney to Tay Tay now looks like an obvious sideways trade no?
I quite like Adams, especially if you don't have Titch, but I'd weigh up whether this is worth a trade. It is "only" a concussion, meaning Viney will likely be back for the next game, and Adams still has a bye to go.

Best 18 this week also means it's less of an impact if a premo misses.

Starcevich to Fyfe done and Rozee moves to the bench due to his late omission with Georgiades to replace.
