Watching those pressers it didn't look like Gibbs was ready to retire. He spoke about the challenge of being in and out of the team rather than the challenge of being able to play. I didn't realise his football had become that much of a problem. Was it? Does someone throw him a lifeline? I expected the Kreuzer announcement. Poor bloke just couldn't avoid injury.

I’m not sure who’s to blame for his seemingly rapid decline but somebody or other has destroyed what was a pretty good footballer in Bryce Gibbs. Only he’ll ever know if it was him I spose.

From media reports they tried to suddenly develop a more accountable/defensive side to his game , not going to happen after 10+ years.

Had his faults but always thought he was a excellent kick.

Should have played a lot more games than he did at Crowland so suspect their may well have been a clash of opinions somewhere along the line.

265 games so far.

I’ll shed a tear when The Hoff finally moves on. A good Port Adelaide person through and through. Now is the time though, King George needs games.
Have enjoyed watching The Hoff over the years.

Do you think Ebert's time is up as well ?

Suspect Boak plays until he is 40 , Robbie should get another season at least.

Robbie has a 2021 contract.
I think alot will be down to list sizes next year with a deal to come for Ebert ahead of Watts, Sutcliffe, Lienert, Mayes and Buzza.

Interesting that their retirements come together. Both ended at Carlton in "suspicious" circumstances, in the midst of the worst tanking in AFL history. Who could ever forget the last game of the 2006 season being labeled the Bryce Gibbs Cup? The loser got to pick up Gibbs in the next draft. Essendon stuffed that up, and after tanking so many games, won the game, and lost the chance at getting Gibbs. Looking back, Essendon stuffed up twice, using pick 2 to take Scott Gumbleton, with Boak and Joel Sellwood slipping through to 5 and 7 respectively.
Amongst Dodoro’s finest moments 🤢
Gumby looked like he was going to be the next big thing though, I feel for dodo on that one as he probably made the right call without the wisdom of hindsight. There weren’t many 6’8 freak athletes running around back in the mid 00s.

Such a shame his Hammys were made of silly string.
1 Gibbs
2 Gumbleton
3 Hansen
4 Leuenberger
5 Boak
6 Thorp
7 Selwood
8 Ben Reid
9 Armitage
10 Nathan Brown

55 Robbie Gray

Was the knock on Selwood that his knees wouldn't stand up to AFL level ?
The other kick in the guts as an Essendon supporter is that was the first year that priority picks went from being at the start of the first round to inbetween the first and second round. So picks 17 and 18 for Blues and Bombers.

If it remained as it was the year before the Bombers would have had pick 2 and 4. It has been revealed several times if the had both those pick they would have gone Gumby then Selwood at pick 4.

Herbie - Yep Selwood missed most his of his draft year with a knee injury.
