I understand that sportspeople have anxiety and depression, but I always wonder whether if it is a result of having never truly had a rounded experience of the world around them?
It’s not an easy thing for people to have their every move questioned or commented on, but you hope that the support base around these guys allow for time to have a bit of normality in their lives away from cricket.
In most sports, the top bracket players need a bit of arrogance or inflated sense of self to pull off some of the miraculous things that they can do, but when it doesn’t necessarily come straight away or they put too much thought (or obsessiveness as Weatherald puts forward) it can lead to narrow minded thinking and not enjoying the things around you.
Sorry for the ramble, just something I notice about the increasing trend for cricketers mentioning depression and anxiety. Feel that sportsmen these days aren’t quite as ‘rounded’ in their experiences as previous eras
