Do I get a rep for suggesting this back on the 7th page and get turned down?

Is Luke Delaney worth a look in now he is at the saints?
Luke Delaney (STK, $242,700)

AFL article - Delaney the Saints Ace In the Pack - Scheider

FORMER North Melbourne defender Luke Delaney has the potential to make the biggest impact of St Kilda's new recruits in 2014, says Adam Schneider.

Delaney, 24, crossed to the Saints via a trade in October after struggling for senior opportunities at the Kangaroos. He was one of two backmen recruited, along with Greater Western Sydney's Josh Bruce, in an attempt to strengthen the side's defensive stocks.

St Kilda also picked up Brisbane Lions ruckman Billy Longer and Hawthorn midfielder Shane Savage.

The Saints rued injuries to the likes of Sam Fisher, James Gwilt, Sam Gilbert and Sean Dempster this year, which often left them exposed down back and forced the likes of Dylan Roberton to play above his height. Schneider believes Delaney has the ability to become a cornerstone of the Saints' defence after standing out during the recent Colorado altitude training camp.

"I think Luke Delaney has impressed. He's an extremely big boy and you can just tell he knows what to do," Schneider told AFL.com.au.
"He was just lacking a chance at North Melbourne and he's really standing out to us, he's such a big body and that's exactly what we needed.
"I think he'll probably play most games if not all of them and hopefully really help us down back."

With the recruitment of the two defenders, the Saints have the nucleus to form a stable back six – something they've lacked in recent years.

"I think now with Sam Fisher, Sam Gilbert, Sean Dempster, James Gwilt, Tom Simpkin and them two as well, there's a lot of big defenders down there to choose from now, which is good because last year we had a lot of injuries," Schneider said.

"This year, we've got more to choose from and put a lot of pressure on each other to keep their spot, so that's good."

The Saints' three draftees – Jack Billings, Luke Dunstan and Blake Acres – went on the Colorado camp just days after the national draft.

The two rookie acquisitions of Eli Templeton and Maverick Weller joined them a week later. Schneider said the youngsters quickly found their feet in Boulder and impressed in training. He also said there was no reason the three draftees couldn't push for senior selection as early as 2014.

"Luke Dunstan is a man-child, he's massive, he's up there with the strongest top five or 10 at the club in body-weight so he's got a good chance," he said.

"Jack Billings, being a No.3 draft pick, you always put expectations on these guys but they're still kids and they're going to take their time and you can't expect too much from them because that's just not fair on them. "But I think they're a good chance and they're doing all right things at the moment and impressing so that's good to see.

"(The training camp) was the perfect way for them to get in and meet the boys and they responded really well." Billings hurt his quad on the trip but Schneider said the youngster was back running before Christmas and just restricted with kicking.

I can't see Philzsay going near Waters this year. The ultimate bad luck story of the season.
Very True, I'm going nowhere near Waters. So much so that I have moved into the middle of a desert, haven't had a shower in months and have been drinking pure alcohol! ;)

Any North supporters out there, Benderiffic and Footyrulz, have a view at all on Aaron Mullet.
A terrible price at 420k but I'd just like to be sure before I cross him off my list.

Cross him off! I actually like him as a player but hasn't done enough sc wise just yet to fork out $420k! Perhaps in a few years, yes, maybe even this year if he takes off, but there is no way I would start with him especially with the options we have in the back half

He certainly has the potential to become a 100+ average player but I highly doubt he will improve significantly this season.

Atley and Macmillon are definitely ahead of him in terms of a potential move into the midfield.

I would see if he can have a slight improvement this season and then reconsider next year.

Luke Delaney could be the Dylan Roberton of last year.
Get Delaney if you want someone to score 30 points every week and be a massive spud!

I think he's absolutely rubbish in real life too. Too slow and makes poor decisions.

Anyone keen on Hanley and Hibberd?
I'm not sold on paying $572K for Bartel, McVeigh or Walker. It feels overpriced.
Mitchell is a lock.

Would be on Hanley very quickly but his draw is unfavourable and he is a flat track bully. Not sold on Hibberd, he's been in and out of my team all pre-season as I'm searching for my 3rd defensive lock.

Yeah fair enough on both. There was an interesting article on another website about Hanley that really stirred up my interest in him.

I think the SC form of Essendon players, with the exception of Watson and Goddard, will be dependent on how well the team is travelling. Hibberd was scoring very well during the first half of the season when the boys were playing well and then dropped off as the Season from Hell took its toll. If Essendon can play out more than half-a-season, Hibberd seems like a very good prospect. All depends on their mindset though.

Not really keen on anyone below Hibberd or Hanley. Birchall, Hurn or Ibbotson - they have BURN factor written all over them.

Yeah Hibberd was killing it. He's coming into his 4th season and is aged 24, so he could still have his best ahead of him. You could look to Adcock for consistency - but has a tough draw - or Enright. I'm really unsure. The two back locks I've got are Mitchell and K. Simpson

I would tend to go Hibberd than Hanley just because of Brisbane's tough draw at the start and end of season. Hanley will be one who will receive most attention of the 2.

firstly like to point out i've got a good
feeling about Hanley for 2014 and
Will be starting him.
FTB maybe but i'm backing him to
become more consistent and score
well in losing sides.

But i sense some shadow jumping
at Brisbane's draw. Are people worried
that they will lose and get a smaller
Piece of the pie or that Hanley will
Be shut down?

Brisbane's draw to bye round-
Haw,Gee,GC,Port,Rich,Saints,Syd
Ess,Nth.

They almost beat Geelong twice last
year, good to get Hawks early i rekon.
Sydney tough, Saints rubbish and Ess,
Nth,GC,Port and Richmond try and out
score rather shut you down.

Long story short what is the issue,
Tagging or losing?

Bit of both.
Naturally, players from winning teams tend to score points and fair to say, the Lions don't seem like contenders for a top 8 spot just yet.
Hanley is also very dangerous left unchecked. When he started to receive attention this season, his output fell away and he isn't an inside mid.

That being said, there were promising signs towards the end of last season for both Hanley and the Lions. And then, they decided to sack Voss...

On Docherty from Wednesday's training session.

Young recruit Sam Docherty was also restricted in his training and spent the session sharpening his reflexes with development coach Michael Osborne.

Docherty has big wraps on him after making the move from the Brisbane Lions during last year's trade period.

I'm with you on this and the other factor that has been lost in the FTB theory is his natural improvement.

2011: 83
2012: 91
2013: 96

That and the potential to spend more time in the midfield in his 4th full season which has traditionally been the breakout season for players in the past, I've got him ahead of a lot of the other defenders at the moment. Round 10 bye is handy as well.
