Very awkward chat, real tension between Lalor & punter.

Basically Lalor said that the real story of the day was Paine not reviewing Kohli getting caught behind.

Ponting said that was incredibly harsh and no one could for sure say that they heard it.

Lalor then said they get paid alot of money to get those things right.

Ponting said it doesn't matter what the players are getting paid/ not relevant.

Lalor then said the new headline was Ponting defending Cricket Australia and his mate Tim Paine.

After that there was silence until the next ball was bowled & Tim Lane called the action.

Poor form from Lalor.

Ponting’s commentary has been brilliant for mine, the way he reads & understands the game is exceptional.

Interesting, thanks. It’s probably hard to comment without hearing it, although my starting point would be that both views may have some merit. To Punter’s point, either you hear something or you don’t (I’m not sure you can train your hearing?) and I’m sure Paine is doing everything he can on the field regardless of pay.

Perhaps Lalor is pointing to Australia’s poor record at reviews more broadly, which I think is unacceptably bad and needs to be addressed. It’s just decision making, which definitely can be practiced and trained. I find it annoying when Aussie players laugh off how bad we are at it, as though it’s unimportant or good enough. Lalor’s approach seems a bit aggressive though.

I totally agree that Punter’s commentary has been a standout. I was very excited when he was appointed originally, and I think he’s lived up to my expectations, but I reckon he may have gone to another level recently.

Good summary.

I generally enjoy Lalor’s contribution but I thought his provocative response to what I thought was a pretty jovial and reasonable point by Ponting was not appropriate. I got the impression they have some history.

I also thought Tim Lane cut Lalor a bit short when they finished up.
