Hard to know whether this is good news or bad... either he has come in and looks amazing in pre-season: FHOF Mk 3 or (more likely) our rebuild team is so bad that anybody with half decent skills is a walk up start :cautious:
Going to be tough midfield with Dumont,Davies-Uniacke,Anderson,Simpkin,Cunnington and depth midfielder Tyson. Will be interesting to see if they put midfield time into Thomas, Powell and Phillips by swinging Cunnington,Simpkin forward at times.

Probably a combination of both, but the kid can certainly play. You’ve got a good one with Phillips.

It's just Cal Twomey, the draft guru from the AFL, saying who is ready to play early on. He has about half a dozen of the top draftees playing round 1. He hasn't identified who's spot in the team they are taking. Ben Cunnington, Curtis Taylor, Tarryn Thomas, et al might have other ideas. The same at other clubs.

Mitch Cleary did this best 22 back in late November.

B: Lachie Young, Ben McKay, Aidan Corr
HB: Shaun Atley, Robbie Tarrant, Luke McDonald
C: Trent Dumont, Jed Anderson, Jared Polec
HF: Tarryn Thomas, Nick Larkey, Luke Davies-Uniacke
F: Jack Ziebell, Cam Zurhaar, Jaidyn Stephenson
Foll: Todd Goldstein, Ben Cunnington, Jy Simpkin
I/C: Josh Walker, Bailey Scott, Curtis Taylor, Kyron Hayden

EMERG: Flynn Perez, Aaron Hall, Jack Mahony, Kayne Turner

I can see Hayden in the back pocket instead of Young, so Phillips could take a spot on the interchange, but there is no walk up start barring injuries.

This is the Foxsports team which is the same names.

I wouldn't mind them trying to squeeze Atu in. Ziebell probably end up injured so a spot is there.

It's unlikely Walker, Corr, Tarrant and Mckay all play defence. I think Walker will play forward alongside Larkey. LDU will play midfield, while either B Scott or K Hayden should fill a spot of half-back. I'm sure there'll be injuries before round 1 though that change things around.

20 minute quarters again, so who gives ruck relief to Goldy?

Too tall in defence and too short up forward. So, that might be our best 22, however structurewise it doesn't seem quite right.

Very hard to know who will actually play early in the season, but my guess would be:
1. Archie Perkins - I expect him to probably get games early since the Bombers really need some forward prowess. If he pinch hits in the midfield, he might score ok.
2. Finlay Macrae - Should score well if he gets games on a HFF/wing. I think he's a chance to play with Stephenson gone and Mayne getting on a bit.
3. Riley Thilthorpe - While a key forward, he's got a ready-made AFL body and could become a key target for the Crows.
4. Bailey Laurie - Melbourne need a small forward so he should get games, but is unlikely to score particularly well.
Correction - Thilthorpe had injuries in 2020 so might not play early. https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/af...y/news-story/1a8c24a133687428c4ac1f9d5b4612a7

Gulden looks a likely option at Sydney as a small forward, and seems like someone who might score ok given his experience playing as a midfielder and stocky frame. Adelaide's Rowe might play early but the Crows' forward line won't see much of the ball in 2021.
