anyone got their eye on a defender in that 160k-250k range this year? there's usually a good pick there and it can help with structure if you have someone near rookie price with good js who you can put at d4/5 without taking on too much risk of a donut. but no one stands out to me there at first blush.
I’m keeping an eye on DGB and Stocker.

I reckon there are more semi-interesting (or at least “name”) players around the $300k region than in other years.

I’ll be trying to avoid the vast majority, but could be tempted by 2 or 3.

yep lots of good value on offer. you should have no trouble putting together one of your no-rookie teams
so something like this 😀

Howe , Docherty , Z Williams , Newman , Milera , Roberton

Rowell , Prestia , Cunnington , LDU , Edwards , Green , Caldwell , Heppell (Hately , Hutchings , Cockatoo)

Preuss , S Martin

McDonald , Franklin , Curnow , Thomas , Brown , Ziebell , ( Daniher , Patton)

And here I was thinking I would start Gawn & Grundy and go all premiums and rookies for once 😀

And now all of this value is here.

I should have stayed away hahaha
I did this for the BBL and look where that has gotten me...

Due to the calibre of coaches we have on our forum, I think that it's absolutely critical that you frequent these forums (time permitting) if you want to be part of the leading pack.

Already had a look at a MPM team where for about 5 seconds I thought that’s a decent looking team and then looked at games played recently.

Yep, that’s a major drawback. Also very hard to upgrade. I had a good experience last year with a pretty strict GnR side, with a focus on top flight premiums, and will likely be doing a similar thing again.

You don’t want to have to do 15 upgrades.

I think you are just being kind in the BBL and will give us 2-3 rounds before the Horses start Flying again 😀

My idea for next season is to wait for Round 1 teams to be announced , select the rookies , then speed read 5,000 pages of info and select my team

Yes also that. I normally take 2-3 discounted players which can go either way and then GNR as much as possible, but my best years have been with a couple of cheaper players that worked out.

Or...
You could just post in the Q4R thread prior to RD1 and ask him for 'the ideal starting team'...(y)

Exactly. If you get the 2-3 right, you’re well ahead, it’s just that the odds are generally not great, so they either need to be no brainer type picks (maybe Preuss??) or you have to back the right ones.

The average quality of the midpricers drops away rapidly as you take #4, #5 and so on, so I think that approach is best avoided.

I get bored between BBL rounds , have narrowed my Round 4 trades to 12 players.

My EPL RDT scored well (for once) , NBA RDT just started so thought I may as well sneak in here for a little peek a boo 😀
I don't know how you do it...

@Herbie66 @THCLT

I have often thought that if someone picked the cookie cutter players from the Rate My Team thread, with an emphasis on picks by coaches with the best records, they’d be able to put together a side in hours that would be both well structured, and very competitive.

It would be like a better version of the Herald-Sun’s “Pick this guy, pick 3 of these guys” article.

Being unemployed certainly helps unfortunately.
