Love some thoughts on a few players
Witherden
Butters
Rowell
My opinions:
Maybe one more year when Hurn goes.
Would be the year if we didn't have all these DPP players added to the fwd line this year.
Really unknown but could be the best option to take a punt on with overpriced mids.

Hehe - hopefully great minds. Rowell would probably be my next mid in, which is very contrary to my initials expectation. His injury game brought his price down to a level where he could jag a gig.

Heppell is my current M5.
Rowell is a must and Heppell is really a no brainer at M5

It’s a good question.

Mitchell and Cripps are the only premo mids that I really want to pick.

I currently have them alongside Oliver (possibly overpriced but super reliable, young) and Macrae (possible role risk but otherwise a very reliable 120 player) and a mid-pricer.

I’ve considered putting an M-F premo in the mids as well.

The def rookies are usually pretty good, so you could potentially even consider Laird in the mids to even up your structure.
I won’t get Cripps again I couldn’t stand looking at him in my team all of last year. A burn man of 2020

Havent seen Witherden put together a consistent season and has had endurance issues in the past. Whether this preseason is enough to make him a premium is unknown. I dont love the pick.

Butters needs to play a lot of midfield time given the quality of forwards this year, and hes not exactly cheap. One that could work but you cant be sure of given role. My view is he is too good not to be used mostly forward. His scores are quite up and down. I'd be surprised if he was a premium, but expecting some improvement.

Rowell looks like hes a premium, im thinking on the lower end with upside considering we havnt seen much of him at AFL level. Contested bull, kicks goals, durable besides the unfortunate shoulder. He lives and breaths Sherrin. A fair bit of his scoring came from tackles and I am concerned how that affects his shoulder, although he said the shoulder feels good. His 3 big scores last year were all in wins, although those wins were largely because of him. His first thumping loss to Port he only scored 80. At his price I think Simpkin is his biggest competition who has displayed a decent ceiling, and wouldnt be surprised if he betters Rowell. If Rowell is 100% by marsh series then I think hes a low risk pick, hes posted absurd numbers in juniors and its translated into AFL, albeit small sample size.

Those guys on this mid structure?

Option 1
J kelly M2, Rowell M5 and 125k rookie

Option 2
Neale M1, heppell M5 and 200k rookie
Option 1, but would be cautious on Kelly. I was huge on him last year, was just a gut feel selection for me. He's always an injury risk, at his best he's got the potential to be just about best SC MID in the game, but just too often got stuck in that 90 sort of range last year. With a bit of a list turnover at GWS this year, I think I'd probably want to have a bit of a look at how they setup and how they go before selecting him with confidence. Rowell I like, Heppell I don't. Maybe Neale plus Hately (who I like more than Heppell at this stage) or another midpricer type and a $200K rookie may be the go.

I've rambled a lot and swayed between both options, but at this such early stage of the SC preseason it's tough to settle on things, but I'd probably look at some sort of compromise where you take elements of both options haha.

Kelly had a better year statistically than Fyfe last year - 14/1604 v 14/1585. I think a lot of people are looking at starting Fyfe, so why not Kelly? Seems to be a similar sort of player - start or forget, as he does cop a few injuries.

Kelly only had 4 sub-100 games: 74, 89, 92 and 95 - not too many in the 90 range. The two lowest scores came just before the games he missed with injury. He had six games of 119+, almost half, including scores of 195 v Richmond, 139 v West Coast and 138 v Melbourne. I can see the appeal (and the risk).

This is where I'm at right now. Small sample size on Rowell last year. Bull out the gate but would he of faded with the weight of the midfield on his shoulders all year.? Anyway, picked for now as Upside, age, natural progression boxes are all ticked. Think ill have to loose one of Impey or Daniher eventually if Phillips is a starter for north.
I feel one of Taranto, Kelly or Cogs will be a top 6 mid this year. Maybe a year early to expect Taranto to be an uber premium but its only a matter of time.
Pros and cons for Kelly and cogs so its a tough call to pick which one atm.
Anyway this my side. Thoughts welcome.

Early days but can't fit any of Lloyd Gawn or Neale in due to price

Just think you will need a bit more cash in the bank for when the rookies show themselves.
Sidebottom to Dusty will give you 40k.

Real good chance the kid Powell from The Roos laces up round one.

Not interested in Dunkley or Danger to replace Sidebottom for approximately $25,000 either way?

Seems a very strange selection considering his scoring history, game style and starting price, along with his 2020 average being inflated.

Most of the main forwards look like upgrade targets. Is there any information about how Heeney recovered from his ankle injury?
