Dogs assistant coach Steven King on Dunkley:-

Dunkley played only 12 games due to an ankle injury and despite a public trade request the Dogs held firm, setting the scene for a year of intrigue about how much midfield time he will be handed.

“He has been unbelievable,” said King.

“Even going through the process, Dunks is a pro and it’s amazing how 20 years ago how big a deal it could have been. But the professionalism now is so high. The players are so welcoming and they have made it as comfortable as they can. He has led by example from day one and presented himself well and is working so hard at training.

“Reflecting on his year, he had that bad syndesmosis and we asked him to fill a role in the ruck and he was so team-oriented that he accepted it, but we won’t do it this year.

“We will share the load with all our mids and with his forward craft and ability to cover ground he will play multiple positions for us and he will be accepting of that.”
Is the glass half full or half empty? I'm still none the wiser.

You think he worth a punt? Ave 70-75?
He's a real if better options don't present type for mine. Not shown to have a high ceiling for price spiking, although a couple of decent games, not terribly consistent game to game and needs to hit an 80 range if he's going to make 200k.

JS should be good, role is decent but if there is a 120k option instead I'm taking that personally.

I also probably prefer to spend the extra 90k odd for Preuss or Heppell as I think there chances of 95 are better than Impey's of 80 and I think both are more likely to have big price spiking scores also.

Always good to have the options though and if there's just nothing out there then he's in play. I think 75 would be a pretty strong result for him and that's going to be a mediocre rookie result.

He will suffer and like it!
I also read that as "he's not going to like playing forward but that's what he's gonna be doing a fair bit!

I wonder if :-

Marshall , Heeney , Ziebell , Daniher , Impey , Kelly / Durdin , Rowe

is viable to start
Pretty similar to what I am working with at the moment, do you think Heeney will be mostly playing forward or mids this year? I was considering Caldwell in that spot you have Heeney in. I just floated Caldwell to the mids and now considered whether Dyson might be better value...

I've jigged around to have Dunkley, Marshall, Ziebell and Daniher + rookies.
Heeney would be good value if he didn't seem to still be battling injuries so he's a pass for me. Impey has scored above 90 only 10 times in 121 matches (Daniher has done it 17 times in 108) and has a season best average of 74. That doesn't seem to mean enough dollars quick enough really vs taking a punt on a 123k guy.

I think Heeney will continue to play similar positions/roles he has in the past.

I think we all want him to play more midfield but I don't actually think he has too given his historical scores.

Of course Impey would be first to go if viable rookie options present themselves.

I don't mind having to play a little extra if someone is seemingly best 22.

Cahill , Chugg , Cockatoo , Durdin ,Kelly , Laurie , Macrae , Rowe, Smith etc are all just names at the moment who may or may not be selected Round 1.

I have personally had about as much luck with Heeney as SOK (in BBL) in the past :).
A healthy Buddy might provide Heeney more midfield opportunity but still waiting on that to eventuate.
4 seasons of 94+ with Heeney , I am happy with his output and role.

Good old SOK , made him captain for the final , and he let me down again.

Hopefully he retires so I am not tempted again.

This isn’t enough for me (a Heeney fanatic) to jump off. Doesn’t sound like there is any new injury, just that he is being eased into and tempering expectations.

Also said that "The target will definitely be the practice game and at least getting some minutes in there."

Heeney is still in
Fwiw Heeney played in the match sim last Friday

The risk is lack of bailout options
Suspect Ziebell & Daniher will be in the majority of sides so we will all have the same issue.

If they both can get to $ 375 - $ 400k ish Round 7/8 they should be ready to be upgraded , hopefully a few higher priced forwards have dropped to $ 500 k or less.

Not 100% sure on my mids at the moment (Rowell , Taranto) so starting Dunkley , Dusty as a mid could offer "insurance"

Campbell , Hollands (?) , Finrae , Cockatoo plus possibly a few D/F offer options as well.

I agree with this. At his price of 450k, hitting a 94+ (in line with his historical scoring over 4 seasons) is all he needs to do to be a win. Anything pushing 100 is a bonus.

He’s always had interrupted preseasons and still been good enough to bash out at least 94+. No new injuries as yet is my understanding so far.

Every time I have selected Heeney (3 times from memory) he has been injured within 2 games.... I am not selecting him again for:
1) his own health
2) my sanity
3) the Swans really need him :)
