Leunberger has to be everyone's first pick doesn't he?

Sandi at that price has to be a look in.

And will Collingwoods young fella get the second year blues?????
Not a fan of young grundy normally ruck take a long time to become good. And if they push him he then can burn out. Wont play more then 15 games i recon.
Leunberger will be my ruck if nic nat isnt fit, but nic nat will be 100% locked if he is then nab cub.

If nicnat and mummy have a full pre season, is it worth picking both? Both are under priced premiums that can fire when fit. Or is it worth picking a mid priced ruck?

Even if Sandilands stay injury free, I doubt he can go back to his 100+average. Will still have heaps of value, but I dont think he's worth the risk.

If both are fit and firing, Nic Nat will be a definite lock.
Not too sure about Mummy coz between him and Giles, who will spend more time in the rucks?
If that's the case, might be worthwhile going Nic Nat + mid-priced ruck :)

I am not sure if he is, but is Tom Nicholls injured? With Zac Smith out until mid season - from what i've heard - this should mean dixon gets number 1 ruck? Or is gorringe above him?

With subs being limited this year, I feel the aerobic ruckman will be worth lots.

Leunberger with no obvious back up is going to be my first pick (might be the one sided lion in me)
Grundy showed a lot the last games last year, and was very good and hungry below his knees.

Nat is a legend, but is he over his injuries, and will share duties will bigger legend in Cox.

Sandi if fit is great value.

Nicholls did his knee late last season but I think his rehabiliation has been pretty good and should be ready for round 1.
If he is fit, Nicholls will be the #1 ruck for GCS.

what do people think about bellchambers as a fwd that can provide cover for the injury-prone sandilands type?

It's one of the big dilemmas. He's more reliable to get on the park than Dixon, but Dixon, if fit, is more likely to score well. The other problem I have with using a R/F DPP link to cover Rucks this year is, it only functions as you want, if you have playing Rookies at F7/8. At the moment I just don't have confidence in the Fwd Rookies, Dixons fitness, or BC scoring capabilities. I'm still leaning to a Hickey R3, and loophole my R2 strategy.

Bellchambers may be required to play alot more forward this years with the loss of Crameri.

He has shown that he can take a mark and kick goals so not a bad forward option for the Bombers, but not great for us SCers.

I have been playing around with it but I am concerned about his scores, the Essendon supporters would know better but I am not sure how Essendon will line up.

Who is playing forward, Daniher, Hurely, Carlisle? If it is only Daniher and a ruckmen then I am concerned that Bellchambers will spend to much time forward, in a role similar to Hampson at Carlton or Vickery at Rich last year. Can't see him scoring enough points without hit outs. If he is going to get 50% or more time in the ruck then he looks pretty good.

Difficult to know exactly how the Bombers forwards line will line up, but my guess is that Hurley will play CHF, with Daniher, Chappy and the resting ruckman (Bellchambers and Ryder) forward. Expect Ryder and Bellchambers to be fairly evenly split in ruck duties, depending on match-ups etc.

The time to get on Bellchambers would be if Ryder went down. Ryder however has been quite durable over the years (except for last year), so that is unlikely. Unless Bellchambers plays more time in the ruck than he did last year, I just can't see where the improvement in his SC numbers will come from.

Rucks really are doing my head in this year!

Now I could never wish that someone has an injury...but if Todd Goldstein felt like stepping briefly way from the game by going on a journey of spiritual enlightenment for 8 weeks only to come back a better afl player and person while giving his good friend and colleague Dan Currie and opportunity to step up...well I'd be cool with that :p

Excellent point Rowsus, and a big reason I'm starting to cool on Dixon. I would have been happy with an 89-95 average from him given the potential versatility, but i reckon you need to spend a bit extra to have a "best 22" fwd rookie on the pine too. Rohan's probably the cheapest of those, but I'm starting to think I might be able to get better value and more coverage out of a Caddy/Pav/Longer/Hickey combo than a Dixon/rookie ruck combo.

Sorry not sure if his name has come up yet but what do people think of Vardy? Awkward price at $333k but toying with the idea of sneaking him in.. while the fwd/ruck dpp seems less enticing this year the flexibility could help. At this stage it would be a luey (r1) and then attempted loophole between grundy and vardy as r2 and r3. The worry is I'm investing a fair bit of the salary cap.. could be better to go 2 prems and 2 rookies but thinking this gives me a chance to rejig early if either is struggling/fires up..

Hey Krieks, as a cats supporter I love him! As a fantasy coach though, I'll be steering clear. I reckon they'll try to play both Hmac & Simpson in the side for at least the start of the season so there'll be limited opportunity for him to give them a chop out in the ruck, with those duties probably going to Blics when he's playing. Vardy is first cab off the rank to be taking Pod's role as CHF and given he's still developing as a key forward, reckon there are better options. (Although not too many with R/F!)

To be perfectly honest, I have no confidence in who to pick as R 1 and R 2 at the moment.

Thanks WandP, just what I needed - a cats fan with a bit more team knowledge than I have! If he was a chance for some extra ruck time I think I'd sneak him in but if he's more CHF then its probably dollars better spent elsewhere!

Hearing ya. Cox feels the 'safest' of the big 3 but then you read stuff like NicNat will be number 1 ruck if fit and it starts to make you wonder if BC is the right top end premium to go with.

At the moment, I'm on NicNat and Sandi with no confidence at all.
