Same was said when Bevo moved Matthew Boyd to half back, most were very skeptical (myself included). However he went from a kicking efficiency of in the 60s to almost 80% after being moved :-

From defence Matthew Boyd is still averaging 28 touches a game - not quite the 33 of his midfield pomp, but still a mighty number. His disposal efficiency is touching 80 per cent, a big jump from the 60s of his All-Australian years. The relative time and space of the two positions renders this a logical improvement; he smiles at the "if I only knew then what I know now" nature of his new role.
"Maybe I should have been a backman earlier, and understood that when you do turn the ball over in the midfield the backs get hurt. I probably didn't have that appreciation early in my career. It might have helped."
Very good point. Should of remembered Boyd, he helped me to my best ever finish.
I do reckon that Boyd was a far superior footballer to Ziebell though before they made their backline switches.
I reckon there would be more cases of it not turning out as well, and Boyd was a pretty strong outlier.

I compare ziebell more to dev smith. Boyd was a ball magnet and suited the quarter back role

If dev smith can look good at half back not being able to kick the ball more then 30 metres jz can do it

Thoughts on a $331k forward who will play at half back for the bombers, recently switched clubs from St Kilda. 🤫 Could improve his average by 20 this year to 80ish or are we better off going rookies or trookies?

What is a trookie? A rookie that likes Star Trek?

I can't see enough value, but I haven't considered him as an option. Moving back seems more suitable for him, based on the name anyway...

Is he in their Best 22 ? There’d be question marks there for mine at this stage. And probably too many question marks that one AAMI series game won’t be enough to make me confident in the selection. Particularly with Cahill also getting a pump up for his work across HB in the preseason.

Much prefer Milera at somewhere around that price.

Isn't Hind basically the Colyer replacement that I assume no Essendon fans wanted?

I actually really like Hind as a player and pickup for the Bombers but not as a fantasy pick.

They've got a lot of injuries down back but have heard of about 5 guys going back now, they have about 100 inside midfielders who will have to filter into other positions as well. Really hard team to pick right now.

Not sure what Butters is going to do this year but I like him better as a breakout pick than anyone else priced below 90, especially if he gets moved to spend more time in the midfield. He is a tough player, but perhaps too skinny at the moment to play inside mid, so it's an interesting one. According to an AFL article from a few weeks ago he and Rozee were both training more with the mids in preseason and Butters looked particularly impressive. Fantasia's arrival probably means one of them has to spend more time up the ground.

Averaging 87 as a flanker is pretty impressive by Butters in his second season, but I'm not sure if Port will be quite "as good" this season, should still be around top 4 but think they had a lot of players at their best and a few of the important older players might see some decline. He might not get the same amount of score involvements and goal assists as a consequence when playing forward.
Read his scores were high late last year as had key, impactful passages of play so CD give him so impact plump.

"Josh Dunkley looks set to continue playing as a forward who pinch-hits in the midfield after Adam Treloar’s arrival. He’s averaged 95 over the past two years when playing forward, which would be a disappointing return given he’s priced at 104."

"There is, however, a small chance he’s the value pick of the bunch if he returns to the midfield, where he averaged 128 in the last 16 games of 2020."

Terrible take.

I think Hind will be best 22. We lost Saad and McKenna and he’s the only one who came in.

Tom Mcdonald anyone? 300k and 2 of Melbourne's big forwards down with serious injury.
The problem I see is that I recall his best scoring years were playing mainly as a defender.

In the past couple of years he has had injury problems and aside from the occasional spike game his scoring as a FWD has been terrible
