Which is better value for a 440,000 - 455,000 player Duggan or Heeney?
@wogitalia comments on durability vs proven all valid

Duggan role seem to change with Hurn taking a backward step in later part of the season, should offer similar scoring to Heeney with upside if Duggan maintains a mid role. Heeney a jet, don't rate fwds in a weak team.

I like to take a punt at f3. Rozee vs de goey vs butters vs heeney vs Jack Martin types? Happy to take other suggestions or why u would rule out consider?
Which of them do you expect to get more midfield time and if they play forward which side is going to score
(e.g. In 2020 you would not have expected a North Melbourne or Adelaide forward to kick a lot of goals).

I'm a bit biased against Rozee, screwed me last year, so on the never again list.. like Butters more. DeGoey too inconsistent for mine, Martin doesn't get enough of it to have a great ceiling. Heeney as has been discussed is injury prone, but clearly a gun when he plays.. I'm bullish on Langford at similar price, killing it this preseason and I feel will get more opportunities onball under Rutten..

Heeney's game count season by season

12 , 20 , 18 , 21 , 22 , 6

freak injury last season

still trying to work out how he is injury prone (81 from 88 the previous 4 seasons)
Term thrown around far too loosely from those that are not licensed physicians and have little to no idea on what they are commenting about.

I am surprised at his game count over this period to be honest, but in those seasons did he have injury concerns in the pre seasons and lead up to those said seasons? Was he at his peak condition? To me, he has always seemed injured or not able to play at his peak.. I could be very wrong, just a perception I have personally had..

I liked De Goey before the injury and he does make sense to take Treloar's spot but durability is a major issue. I think he has the highest upside of the group.

Heeney has been covered, like him as a F6 type candidate. Durability is an issue, for mine.

Butters I really like as a player but hard to see a lot of progression, think he's also an F6 type at best, as much as I rate him the midfield minutes are going to be really sparse, although if he wins them he can be really good.

Rozee I just don't like that much, basically he's not as good as Butters for mine, especially as a midfield prospect, so will have to do it as a forward in a strong forwardline that shares the load a fair bit. It can be done but would take a lot.

Martin for me is a "he is who he is" type at this point. Durability has been an issue for him as well and he's basically scored at the same level for 6 years now. A breakout is always possible for players with that talent level but I'd love to have heard a lot of stories about how the penny has dropped and he's trained better than ever, etc to think somethings changed. Realistically Williams pushes him down a rung for midfield minutes and he was already clinging to the bottom of the ladder.

De Goey is, imo, the highest upside of the group and if he can get back and play the preseason games and looks as good as the chatter indicates, I think he's still the best pick because he has enormous upside potential. Heeney feels the safest. Like both the Port guys but the opportunities are hard to envision, durability is on their side though.

Has never completed a preseason and plays a lot of games carrying injuries. First season he missed 10 or so games with a knee injury. Can't remember what it was but missed the start of 17 as well and then had last year with the ankle that took the season and his preseason out.

He's also played hurt a lot which has hindered his scoring and while it's better than missing it's still a pain.

I love him as a player but he's, sadly, not been durable to date and given he's more than likely going to be a borderline F6 level scorer you can't afford him missing games or having a string of games where he's managed through them.

Ultimately he's missed a quarter of the games through his career so far from injury and I'm still not sure if having 10 different injuries is better than 1 happening over and over but for me if you've missed 25% of the games, that's a durability risk.

Fair enough

Knee (2015) , glandular fever (2017) , ankle (2020)

didn't research the 3 games missed in 2016 & 2018 (me bad)

I suspect 75% of the comp play hurt , carrying injuries etc Danger comes to mind straight away , Fyfe etc etc.

Heeney still seems to find a way to score well enough , I will start him.

I will leave you with the game count for this player then 13 , 7 , 19 , 22 , 11.

The same could be said about him πŸ˜€

Wasn't Dunkley dropped for that 3 missed in the 19? The 13 was breaking into the team and the 7 I think was a shoulder? Last year an injury also though.

So yeah, another reason to not like one of the few forwards I can bring myself to pick, thanks :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

All he needs is glandular fever and he is Heeney's boat πŸ˜€

Dislocated shoulder in 2017.

19 was he involved with Libba ? (okade that one up , not sure on that)

Their used to be a poster here last season who knew heaps about the Dogs , haven't seen him recently though.

Shoulders are interesting , people didn't seem concerned about Oliver last year after 2 shoulder Ops , but this year concerns over Cripps , Mitchell & Rowell πŸ€”

JZ , Joey , Impey + 5 rookies

load up elsewhere

(You could always start Heeney πŸ˜€ )

Your record is amazing btw , what were your rankings the last 2 seasons (not stated) or did I read you were travelling overseas the last 2 years ?

10k odd the last couple. Gave up after the Essendon/Melbourne game last year and focused on my main cash league and daily fantasy, found the product to be trash last year and just didn't watch very much either as didn't have a Foxtel/TV as wasn't planning on being in the country much past June. 2019 was overseas and barely watching footy which always makes it hard. Also made lots of bad trades both years :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

19 I thought he got dropped after playing as a forward and not doing much and then came back into the midfield and went ballistic (not trading for him is one of those aforementioned bad trades!)

Shoulders are always a mystery. Some guys it's a one off and others it just keeps happening. The type of injury does seem to be a factor, the type like Ablett or Rowell tend to be worse than clean-up procedures like Oliver or Cripps.

I probably will pick Heeney fwiw although talking myself into one of yours in De Goey instead :ROFLMAO:

Too embarrassed too even look at my rankings each year , but keep coming back knowing one year my crazy ideas/thoughts will work πŸ˜€

Or wait why don't I just do what 90% of people do and at least still have a competitive team by Round 4 and actually enjoy SC πŸ€”

good old 8 quarters a season of football de Goey , actually think he is one of the most over hyped players of recent times then he kicks 3 in 5 minutes and he is a superstar again.

Strange choice if you worry about durability and then want to pick JDG.

Daicos is the one to pick this year , but probably the wrong price range in the wrong position.

Aside from Grundy , Pendles , Sidey & Tay Tay not sure who else , Crisp will probably be just outside that Top 8 for defenders.

Hopefully lots of rookie priced players are named for the Doggies game and one is given instructions to see how BBQ ribs are πŸ˜€

Steele v Oliver v Macrae?

I think it’s likely that all three will end up in our teams by the end of the season but which one is best to start with?
Oliver has been in my side the entire time since SC Gold opened, Steele left momentarily and found his way straight back in. Macrae I haven't been on yet at all, I think I want to see the intra clubs/practice matches/AAMI game from the Dogs before touching any of their players. I just think I need to see things with my own eyes with their setup.

FYI all, Hawks vs. Dogs practice game is going to be live streamed in a couple of weeks.

If we add Petracca I'd rank them:
Oliver- probably the safest pick
Steele- I think he might start a bit slower and be a better upgrade target. Just a feeling though.
Petracca- I'm a bit worried about tags given how damaging he was last season, especially with early games against St Kilda and GWS. That and his 2nd half drop o*** last season.
Macrae- lots of question marks re: role. The main worry would have to be that he'll be stuck on the wing for the first month again. That said it feels strange to rank the only one with three consecutive seasons over 120 last.

JDG just too much talent, he's managed high 80s as a fat pig. So much Petracca comparison there and until he got hurt his preseason was looking good. He's a durability nightmare though and that's absolutely the biggest reason he wouldn't make my side. Would need to play and play well in the preseason while looking very fit before I can cross that bridge but he's the name I scroll past and see 110 scoring from of all the forwards below a 90 average. Don't expect it but if the penny drops, he can.

Howe, Crisp and Maynard are all interesting. I like Quaynor as a player also but not sure there's enough ball to go around. Whoever joins the midfield is also an interesting one. Sier, Brown or do they go Elliott (who I'd like a lot in that role) or Thomas (who I've never understood not getting midfield minutes). De Goey though was the leader for that role.
