Match sim at training yesterday had Harmes playing on the ball and also half forward.

I still can’t see how he gets enough midfield minutes as I believe he’s behind Oliver, Trac, Viney, Brayshaw and Sparrow but encouraging signs yesterday all the same.
Is it possible he moves ahead of Brayshaw on that list?

Anything is possible but I think it’s highly unlikely.

Let’s not forget that Brayshaw finished 3rd in the Brownlow Medal in 2018. Since then he has had injury issues and before we recruited Langdon, he had been played out of position but at his best he is a very good midfielder.

How did Jones play, thoughts on him playing round 1?
Be very surprised if he’s a round 1 debut. Was around the mark but there’s a big handful of players fighting for that spot.
Didnt learn a whole lot from that game. Rozee downhill skiing and saw him mostly forward in the 2nd half, Butters too risky to start forward, not sure Jones plays or not, probably more unlikely judging by his recent interview.
I thought the feedback on Lachie Jones has been good.

...... Lachie Jones looked comfortable across half back, prompting Lokan to say his “power and ability to get out of traffic was AFL standard”.

Half back at Port Adelaide might be the most contested position in football.

DBJ, Houston, Burton, McKenzie, Hartlett, Jonas, Fantasia (no idea where they're playing him), Bonner, Mayes, Lienert and Goldsack have all played AFL level at the position. Assuming you've got Jones essentially in the 3rd tall with Clurey and Aliir that leaves 4 slots for the 10 I've listed and Garner, Jones and Frederick, among any others they might try there! To be fair I think they've got Fantasia as a forward, so that makes 9, but still, would be genuinely surprised if he plays early given DBJ is an actual AA, Houston is at that level and Hartlett is a very good senior player.

Lachie Jones is 185 , same as Hartlett.

Be very surprised if they used him as the 3rd tall 🤔

EDIT or 186 or 188 depending where you read

Might be a ruck by the end of the season

Wasn't saying he'd be the 3rd tall, was saying Jonas would take that leaving 4 slots for the rest. FWIW he's taller than or as tall as Sicily, Rampe, Mills, Hodge or Luke Ryan who've all gone alright in that role! To be fair, he's the same size as Jonas if the video is to be believed!

Main point though, I don't expect to see him much, if at all, this season.

ok

"Assuming you've got Jones essentially as the third tall with Clurey & Aliir" was your exact wording.

Maybe Jones/Jonas is the confusing part.

Staggered seeing how many teams he has been in , be extremely surprised if he played ahead of Byrne-Jones , Hartlett , Houston & Jonas.

Suspect if they go 3 tall it will be Aliir , Clurey & Burton/McKenzie personally.

Yeah, I done typed good :ROFLMAO: Should have said JonAs in the 3rd tall slot :)

Even allowing for Houston to play midfield you've still got DBJ, Hartlett, McKenzie (quietly played a very solid 15 games last year) and Burton (admittedly made of glass). Then Mayes, Lienert (also glass) and Bonner is as good a next 3 as you're likely to find, although obviously if Jones is good he can push past them pretty easily.

Houston will go into the mids when Rockliff/Wines are missing.

McKenzie was very good last year , although I think on the News he was one of 3 that missed today's game , wasn't listening too intently though.

They seem to like Burton if he can ever get his body right , could be a good player.

They were talking a few weeks ago that one of Bergman , Jones , Mead could possibly debut Round 1 so plenty of time yet (although I suspect most line coaches are positive about the kids this time of year)

Port are a team that are very hard to find where the spot comes for anyone.

From the prelim side Ebert has retired. They've added Fantasia who would take that spot if he's fit (even if it's rearranging pieces to work it I expect Butters more midfield and Fantasia closer to goal.

After that probably the last guys picked would be Ladhams/Marshall (structural) and then you've got Burton who seems to be best 22 when fit, Motlop who is an enigma and SPP who has played most games in the last 4 years. Then would be Amon (became a very good player last year), Hartlett (senior leader) and McKenzie (very solid season but would be under siege still).

None of those guys are bad players so you need to take their spot by force which would be a great sign if any of the kids pull it off.

Certainly is a very tough 22.

Georgiadis is another one looking for a spot.

Thought they worked best up forward with Ladhams & Marshall offering options instead of just Dixon.

Very interesting to see their 22 Round 1.

Is Kyle Langford going to have a breakout season and increase his 81 to 90 ?
Would be all over Langford if he was playing midfield and I trusted it to remain that way. Reckon he cooked it by being somewhat effective up forward though.
Yeh, I mentioned him about a month ago... Our forward-line is that bad we can't afford not to have him in there, and my personal opinion is his decision-making up the ground is borderline horrendous... I liked him until I typed this out haha

I am hoping Walsh can better an M8! 107-108 is what I'll want, 110-115 is what I hope for.
If Walsh isn't going to get that inside mid time as #2 behind Cripps then I probably can't justify the 550k spend. Deciphering coaches words and articles this time of year is just as challenging as picking a team imo.
