I'm struggling to fit Gawn, Grundy, Neale, Oliver and Lloyd into a side. I think I can only carry 4 $650k+ players without compromising elsewhere and I put Lloyd below all those other 4.
Can be done with 12 very good keepers + JZ and JD forward + 2 high price rookies + Grundy.

It's similar to one of the sides I was putting together, except mine had a couple of more expensive selections as keepers/captains. That team should make a bit of cash, and could stay competitive early with no rookies IF everyone performs, but you pretty much need to nail every selection to be able to get to a full premium side.
2-4 of Williams , Duggan , Harmes , Milera will be popular anyway

Rowell , Taranto has been discussed

Preuss mentioned

Heeney , JZ , Joey , Impey

could easily find 6-8 (I actually have 7) of those as popular picks anyway , add Cripps slightly over $ 500k and you have the makings of a solid starting team.

Nice logic on the more expensive rookies/premium rookies like Young; and Preuss on bench...but it's costing you a premium...I think the beauty of Preuss at R3 means you aim for FDTP rather than a straight FD. Slam chugg there instead at that price or spend a bit more for someone with more later games early on.
@Toothless Tigers I like the different set up with Preuss at R3 bit I just think that it is too much money on the Pine.

I have also made the decision to avoid Daniher and it will almost be a reverse POD (currently 30% ownership). I think it is a good move.

I know that Rookies can be place holders but I think if you trim yours up a bit and move Pruess on you could get another premium in there somewhere

This is the latest edition of my team, out Stewart, Steele - possibly affected by captaincy, expectation and Crouch. Brought in JZ and Riccardi up forward and Cunnington in the mids.

Gawn & Grundy cost $ 1.4 million
8 high priced rookies is $ 1.6 million (with change)
JZ , Joey , Impey is about $ 700 k

Bench = $ 1 million

so $ 5.3 million for 9 remaining players is 588,888.00 per player

shuffle the rookies and the 12th/13th premium (depending on definition) is easily achievable

My goodness that's ballsy.

Riccardi in a fight between four for the three available tall forward spots at GWS, with Leon Cameron saying they'll only play 3 of Hogan, Riccardi, Himmelberg and Finlayson. Could be in trouble if he puts in a couple of quiet games on the trot.

Steele and Stewart (plus a rookie) is a lot more enticing for mine. You could even got Harmes --> Ziebell essentially, and find yourself a further rookie at the ~$200k mark with the coin saved.

thanks for that, didn't read that re the talls, can easily go down to a rookie if that's the case or Harry Mckay. 🤫

Assuming:

Premos: 450k+ DEF/FWD 550k+RUC/MID
Midpriced / fallen: 210 - 450/550k
Rookie/Cow 102 - 210k

What’s your current breakdown across the lines?

I don't see the need for Cunnington and I think Riccardi is too risky. So Cunnington to a rookie, upgrade Riccardi to Dunkley or Martin and if any cash is left keep it for rookie upgrades. You could even go to Danger.

thanks, dropped Harmes to a donut, upgraded Riccardi to Dunks. Will leave Cunnington in for now.

The yolo 0 value guns and rookies team. Only 12 keepers though.
Looks good though you would do few changes due to injuries and rookie selections. However, picking all the top values in Def, Mid and Ruck may backfire as some will drift downwards initially. And if rookie job security creates issues, (and it can be big issue) you would be playing a catch up game.

Beautiful pure GnR. At last some sensibility. Thanks for bringing us back. I'm 13 keepers plus Preuss and ZDI, so yeah a fair way back from pure GnR. But I always love looking at your teams and then then going what is the argument against any of these selections. And then going from there.

Hang on... so I can have those "big 5" + 8 other keepers, JZ and JD, two other pricey rookies and still come in under the cap, without compromising my keeper picks?

I am doubtful... the team I posted is basically that but minus Jake Lloyd and is $1,400 short of the cap. After the expensive guys, my next priciest players are Laird and Dunkey ~$560k. And that's generously counting Duggan and Rowell as keepers. To find another 100k for Jake Lloyd I have to dip lower somewhere and I don't see where the money comes from without "compromise" (ie. Replacing Laird with Williams as a keeper is a compromise in my books).

I could get a very solid 13 keeper team with Lloyd instead of Neale...

ok taken some feedback onboard and enlightened reading a couple of pages of @Rowsus thread. I've gone some expensive rookies forward, possibly as placeholders. Don't want to risk everything in the forwards, anyway Danger and Macrae come in and can eventually switch Danger forward when upgrading my mids. Hoping Bailey Williams gets games and shares the load with Nic Nat. Back to longer quarters, so I can see he will require a chop out at some stage.

Having looked at this for a while

am now swinging back to this

The latter gives me Gawndry, more cash and better byes balance. Not convinced by Taranto but could go to Rowell (not that I am convinced by him either). Martin starts sloooowwwly at the beginning of the past couple of seasons. Could make him Dunkley. This team is boring however compared to the first team.

Could always go Martin down to Heeney if you are worried about Martin starting slow. Would allow Taranto up if u wanted. Could well work out to be 2 keepers and able to target Martin after his slow patch.
