Yeah Wade is, could go to Maxy also.

Personally I would like to see Philippe open & McDermott given a chance at 3.

Finch is averaging under 7 from his last 7 innings.

Surprised at Agar playing after such a long injury layoff, would of picked Behrendorff myself.
It is going to be a hard series to judge though with Smith & Warner absent.

2 go out for them , if Wade is keeping , then I would say Philippe & one of Marsh/Stoinis misses.

The Philippe selection seems odd , if he is not keeping or opening , then McDermott is probably the better option @ 3.

I guess Cummins has to come back into the side as well , but surely they wouldn't make him captain for the T20 World Cup.

Think we have a white ball series in the WI coming up mid year then Bangladesh before the World Cup.

It was another poor innings I am sorry to say from Finch, he is in just terrible form.

They have to give McDermott a chance next game surely, Maxy or Wade can captain.

Chaos at the start of England's second innings. Wicket first ball. Hat trick given then over ruled on review. Wicket next ball.

33 behind on the first innings looks like a lot

Well not much chance of this match being a draw. I think the only series results which sees the Aussies make the final of the WTC from here are 2-1 to England or 2-2. Guess we want England to win this match so there are two live results in the next match - an India win or a draw in the 4th test would then see us into the final.

I'm not sure the Aussies deserve to make the final, but that's not the point.

That pitch must be a minefield!
It is, but as usual, it's the straight one that's really dangerous. It's been a real subplot in the commentary, the Indians as you can imagine are fiercely protective of their ability to prepare whatever kind of minefield they like, Sunil Gavaskar said something like "nobody complained when England prepared a green mamba at Trent Bridge and rolled Australia for 60".

Which leads to the bigger question, it's one thing that each country has its own natural characteristics in its pitches, but is it a good thing for Test cricket that a captain or coach can get in a curator's ear or is it just part of the country's home advantage? In that Ashes series I remember England changing tack quite dramatically after getting smashed at Lord's!

Personally I think some variation is good, but the pitch (or the country in which the match is players) shouldn’t determine the result. That has to be a bad outcome for the game.

I think the idea of giving the visiting captain the option of batting or bowling first makes a lot of sense. It should largely eliminate that situation where the outcome is largely known after the toss, and you’re just playing it out over 3-5 days.

Crazy few days in India!

Question re: the pitch for me... what is the right balance between creating a home advantage vs. preparing for a 5 day test match. I can fully see both sides of the argument.
