As someone who traded Gawn to ROB in his rookie priced year 2 years ago when he was on the bubble, it comes down to where you spend the money. I mismanaged it and my season was over, so it’s all well and good to have a bucket load of cash to spend elsewhere, but if it’s spent on what turns out to be poor picks, that’s enough to derail your season. From memory I spent some of the funds on Heeney coming off a couple of 130+ scores, who then regressed. A lot of my league opponents took the conservative approach of placing ROB on the bench, got his 181 during the bye rounds and cashed him in for a ridiculous profit whilst keeping the 2 best rucks.
Still feel I can build a strong Gawn and Grundy side, and take the conservative approach of Flynn at R3, being happy if he turns out as ROB 2.0 then I will easily have another premium later in the year, otherwise hopefully reaching that $150k mark which has been a rarity at R3 for a number of years.

Stef Martin just has a horrible start. His cash flight might not get in the air for 6 or 7 rounds.
v Collingwood Ave 91.0 from 9 games
v WCE Ave 88.3 from 12 games
v NM Ave 84.8 from 15 games
v Bris Ave 66.8 from 6 games (last played them in 2012)
v GCS Ave 97.9 from 14 games
v GWS Ave 88.6 from 6 games

Exclude Brisbane for obvious reasons

Historical Ave v his 5 opponents is 90.12

not sure where the horrible start is coming from 🤔

Anyone think ROB can come close to Gawn/Grundy for total points this season?
Haven't seen their game but ROB needs to improve his ruckwork notably which given he has what is likely a weak midfield is doubled down on as he isn't likely to get a lot of help.

Alternatively one of Gawn/Grundy needs to drop down towards the 110-115 range and of course you have to pick which one!

I do think ROB can push towards 110-115 range.

Grundy I'm not sure on but my gut says 120 is his likely low end with 130 very possible and Gawn to me just looks and feels like 130+ so that's a big drop to get down to 120.

ROB feels like the kind of pick that really only works if there is an injury.

Hahaha just posted about Martin in the Defenders thread , cheaper than Cumming & Young who many are keen on

Interesting when you compare prices across lines.

Haven't looked at Ryder to be honest , could be very viable with Marshall out.
I think it has more to do with Martin being closer to their dad's age than their age :)

Martin has never been good in ruck shares, is a jump based ruck that is genuinely old and has struggled with a fair few injuries over the past few years (not costing games until last year but hurting scores). He also looked done last year.

To his credit, he looked pretty good in their scratch match but I find it hard to make a case for why they would hinder the development of English any more than they have to and think Martin is more about protecting their stud than any real comment on what Martin has himself.

Not even sold his JS would be that great or that he wouldn't be rested. Good luck if you take him though, always been a favourite of mine!

Not sold on the JS of Cumming either with Buntine , Idun etc as options.

Hamling & Pearce back means a reshuffle with the Freo defence as well.

I guess Martin only has to do a job (SC wise) for 6-8 weeks and he has served his purpose.

$277k for 85-90 ppg would be a win win in my books.

I think I am in the minority about English , but would love Bevo to let him play as a winger for a season , actually think it helps his development to keep him out of the ruck this season.

Imagine the out cries if Bevo included English in the mid rotations 😀

Think people still believe we have a RR , rover & centre and they play 80% of the game in the guts.

Would love to see stats on other clubs and see how many players they rotate through the CBA compared to the Dogs.

Regarding S Martin, his scoring is heavily dependent on his work around the ground (disposals, marks, tackles, etc) rather than his tap work, due to a below average/poor career HTA rate. He should return to the 10+ disposal range as well his TOG% heading back above 70% but I do not see him registering enough hitouts or amassing enough possessions to return to a 90+ average.

I just cannot get excited about Flynn R2 with matchups against Grawndy in Rounds 3 and 4. Sure he may be a high scoring for the majority of the year, but it could be compromised early with 50s in Rounds 3 and 4 i.e. say 80 80 50 50 No good for us if he's not smashing out the higher scores early on.

Watch the reply of FREO v WCE.....Fyfe looks unstoppable. With his vast injury record do I tempt fate.?
Where did you find that replay out of interest? This is one game @wogitalia was searching for to do one of his reviews on, and it would be good if we could get the full set of games.

I'm also considering Fyfe among a few options, and just relying on highlights can be deceptive.

For Flynn to really work out and burn, I think one of Grawndy will need an injury. Similar to the Witts year. If one somehow misses their Flynn matchup, it’ll be a big swing in favour of Flynn.

Can’t possibly predict this though.

1 more Covid case in Melbourne in the next fortnight and the entire Round 2 - 6 fixture gets redone as well so who knows if they even play Melbourne & Collingwood still.

Maybe if their is a hub again Grundy gets affected.
