I think we can keep switching players in and out of our team right thru this round - obviously not after their team plays tho - can someone confirm?
Yes you effectively have infinite trades during Week 1. The only restriction is you can‘t bring in or trade out players whose teams have already played or started playing or then adjust their status e.g. VC, C, E etc of said players.

But other than that you free to change things on the fly as often as you like during the opening round. Same deal in Real Dream Team and also AFL Fantasy as an aside.

The two players I'm struggling with the most are Jordan Clark and Jye Caldwell.

Clark was excellent in the Cats game against Essendon but is clearly fringe best 22 so 240k is a lot to fork out for a guy with iffy JS.

Caldwell was impressive against the Cats and looks to have a good role as a mid but he is so awkwardly priced at 350k that you almost want to be picking him with the idea that he's a season long keeper which I'm just not sure he will be.

Trying to decide whether to pick one, pick both or start with neither and instead pick a premium defender and cheap rookie.
If there's any uncertainty with a midpricer, don't pick them.

Probably doesn't mean much but I wouldn't be surprised if we picked Berry ahead of Jones from what I saw. Jones is 3 years in now, still unable to find the ball, doesn't deserve to be playing in the firsts. Berry at least looks physically ready. Wouldn't be surprised if we went with Seedsman though as he's got a run in the midfield this pre season.

Also I'll be sad if we have Himmelberg/Lynch/Fogarty/Walker as our forward line set up. No speed/defensive pressure leading/marking tall forward line up for a team that will struggle to get it forward and with ****house delivery when they do.
Maybe. Didn't give he much of a go in second game, however, maybe once Chancey disappointed that what his opportunity. just not sure he took it in his 42% TOG. Tough opposition.

CARLTON is ready to throw much-loved veteran Eddie Betts straight into the action in round one, despite the Blues forward missing the club's two pre-season practice matches due to an ongoing calf injury.

Betts still hasn't played in front of a home crowd since making his long-awaited return to Carlton during the 2019 Trade Period, but appears set to renew acquaintances with the Blues faithful in next Thursday night's blockbuster season-opener.

His anticipated inclusion comes despite the 34-year-old having a delayed start to his summer due to a calf complaint, forcing him to sit out both of the club's pre-season practice matches against Essendon and St Kilda.

Betts returned to play just over a half in a VFL scratch match against the Saints last Friday morning, getting through unscathed and kicking two goals, with the Blues confident he will be able to hit the ground running early in the season.

Betts reflects on 'rollercoaster ride' doco
What was it like to be in the Amazon Prime Video Making Their Mark series? Eddie Betts explains
"He's a proven big-game player," Carlton assistant coach Cameron Bruce said on Friday.

"Our fitness staff prepare the players to come in and have an immediate impact. Those more experienced players obviously don't need the amount of training that a younger, inexperienced player would need to give them that conditioning.

"He's had 15 pre-seasons prior as a build-up, so he's a player that can come in and have an impact."

Betts had played 184 games in his first stint with Carlton, before spending six seasons at Adelaide. Upon his return to Ikon Park last year, the Blues forward managed 13 goals from 15 games in an indifferent campaign.

In a revealing exit interview captured by Amazon Prime cameras in the newly released documentary Making Their Mark, Betts was told by the club's high-performance boss Andrew Russell that he had "lost confidence in his craft" last season.

However, Bruce believes Betts has enjoyed a terrific summer and is ready to consistently impact once more at senior level.

"He's starting to have a real influence on the training track," Bruce said. "You can see that he's training with a real sense of freedom and enjoyment. We know that when he's doing that, he's going to be a really threatening proposition for his opposition. We know what he's capable of doing.

"He was, as much as anyone, not satisfied with his output last year. Even though, for us, his defensive involvement and the things that are so important from a small forward point of view … he was able to affect.

"He probably didn't have the level of impact that we know he's capable of. He's getting himself in a position where he'll be able to do that this year."

Key forward Harry McKay was on very light duties on the training track on Friday as he continues his bid to prove his fitness for round one following an ankle injury, while Mitch McGovern ran laps having already been ruled out due to back stiffness.

This could be a game changer if it filters through to SC

@barrettdamian has the details.

What's the thought on game changer?

Concussion doesn't happen that often, will impact 23rd player. Don't think it will be like a super sub, although, some risk that a constant fringe player is selected as they may want a mid size player given there are more of them on the field. However, do it too often and not allowing someone player reserve will see fitness depletion.

RE:.....(AFL) Coaches have asked for a additional 23rd player to be the concussion sub. Currently, each team is comprised of 18 on-field players and four interchange. ...........

What about an additional 24th player for a hamstring injury? Hmmm, I don't get why the injured concussed player is signalled out and not another type of injury signalled out?

Less exploitable I'd say

If a player is subbed out for the concussion sub, they'll miss the next week's game due to 12 day protocol stuff

If you could sub a player out for any injury (lets say hammy) - there's basically nothing stopping the coach subbing of a player to get the fresh legs on, then playing the 'injured' player the next week

I didn't think of the missing next week as proof that a Coach is not 'playing games'. What about an ACL injury then? hmmm.

Thats what im thinking, maybe we get an extra trade for the player concussed missing the next 2 games, wouldn’t that be nice

I'd say if anything it encourages exploitation. If I do an ACL, just say I'm concussed as well, I'm not playing in 12 days anyway, ditto hamstring or basically any injury except ironically a concussion which I could have played next week but for the AFL's rule that says medical staff are incompetent and not trustworthy...

Hate it anyway. The sub was one of the very worst things in football when it existed, stop even talking about it!

Don’t like any potential for a sub. Surely the current bench is already designed in part for this type of thing.

Team A v Team B
Team A player gets concussed in the first quarter and is replaced.
Team B player does a hammy in the first quarter and can’t be replaced.
I can hear the howls of protest already.

Furthermore can’t see how this helps reduce concussion. If anything it makes them more likely.

Agree with this. In a GF it would be naive to think the player/medico/coach would not consider "creating" a concussion and getting the sub player on if they think it could win them the game. Worry about the ramifications after you have stopping celebrating the premiership.

What's everyone doing with their donut player?

I originally had A.Fyfe in the defence but it looks like Murray, Kosi and Highmore will all get up for Round 1. Don't like running donut players in the mid but may have no choice now.

Not even considering one unless there are literally not 2 rookies in a position. Reckon cash is going to be king this year and anyone who doesn't have a donut by round 3 anyway is going to be laughing.

But I lose points on loopholing anyway, last 3 years I'm down thousands of points, so I don't have any strong affinity to it

With Gawn's early games, where he has the potential to score very high, that is enough incentive for me to not have a FD.
