I'm running clark at d6 most likely so no Murray in my team with Kosi and Highmore on my pine

I think Butts is well ahead of Murray and his spot in the team is pretty on the edge. If kelly and doedee play I'm not sure if he even fits in come round 1. If he does play he has between 2 and 4 weeks to show he is better than Butts when Talia comes back. Honestly don't know much about him other than us making the smart move to sign him given our young KPDs need some support particularly

A bit of a big call maybe but i think Butts is actually quite good. I don't know if he is worth the premium rookie price but i think his form will keep him comfortably in the team. Decent skills for a big guy
Ya I agree with this. Butts has looked good, put on some size and improved over preseason. Did a reasonable job on Dixon and was able to take a few Marks back there. I have him at D7.

Does anyone have durability concerns on Ridley?

Only debuted 3 years ago, and played every game last year.

Only played 3 and 6 before that - possibly due to selection rather than fitness, but had back and ankle issues in 2017.

Nah he had pretty bad back issues to start his career, seems to have well n truly overcome them and looks a really solid pick. Have him D1 atm..

Good colour, thanks mate. I usually go for someone with a bit more history behind him, but his preseason role (100% kickins) and TOG (97% in one game) seem pretty favourable.

I really like his ability to rack up points through intercepts and kick ins and should give him a high floor. With Hurley out though will he need to be more accountable and thus restrict his intercepting??

I personally think even if playing more 'accountable', his 1 wood is that he reads the play so well that he will still peel off when needed and still play a high intercept role.. just looks a genuinely good footballer..

Thanks for the advice BomberArmy, it's nice to have an improved version of Sicily with less brain fades!

Definitely a chance that neither earns it though and they're forced to play Doedee and Kelly as their other talls.
I think we avoid that at all costs, at least Kelly who we've never played on a KP forward that I can remember. We lose out by playing Doedee as a second tall as well as he can no longer play that intercepting role (well more focus on his defensive game). Think it really opens up to the likes of McAsey who I imagine we will give a few more games to at some point this year and Borlase who I believe played some games at SANFL level last year and impressed in the recent practice match.

So hard to comment on Murray though as we've only really seen one game of his at it's hard to judge when you get pumped (which will probably be a regular occurrence for Adelaide).

Butts and Murray vs Hawkins and Cameron, welcome to AFL football...

I had a look at JShort's 2020 games with his SC scores below and the games in bold are the games Houli played.
It doesn't look like Houli influences his scoring.

JShort's 2020 games with his SC scores:
Grand Final 169
Prelim. 52
Semi Final 72
Qual. Final 129
Round 18 101
Round 17 75

Round 16 x
Round 15 114
Round 14 94
Round 13 88

Round 12 106
Round 11 85
Round 10 125
Round 9 94
Round 8 110
Round 7 86
Round 6 118
Round 5 75
Round 4 82
Round 3 126
Round 2 78

Round 1 86
Small sample size I know, but the one obvious takeaway is that his floor was about 10 points lower with Houli in, which leads to an average about 5 points lower if the math I've just done in my head is correct including 4/8 games of 100+ w/o Houli and 5/13 games of 100+ w/ Houli in the side.

It is a small sample size though - what would be interesting is correlating this against wins (winners in 2020 benefited from some heavy in-came scaling) and against Houli's scores in the games they played together.

I've also been impressed by Butts, that name , and think he will be the one to stay in the side as the 2nd tall. Was good last year, looks a preseason better now.

Murray for me should be looked at as your donut who probably plays a couple of games and then if he plays really well, will play a few more. Throw in that Talia and Doedee both have significant durability concerns (and even Butts hurt himself in the preseason game) and he's a solid chance of getting 5 or 6 games. Sadly he probably is a guy who will need 10 to make the cash

Is it just me who wishes Laird stayed in that half back role this season rather than mids? Adelaide look pretty ordinary and he's my biggest concern in Defence.
R Laird:
Moved to the midfield in RD9:
25.67 Disposals
11.78 Contested Possessions
43.80% CPR
5.44 Tackles
118.11 SC
CBA %= 43%, 73%, 72%, 61%, 71%, 73%, 94%, 86% and 74%

When attending more than 70% of the CBA= 127.57 from 7

Having the last bye is swaying me to keep him. I do have concerns on Adelaide being competitive in longer games and from memory Laird is one who tends to scale back.

I feel like the backs/rucks are rather difficult to nail. 2 premium rucks means I'm going cheap in the backline which doesn't look great (i've only been looking at 3 premiums and the rest rookies). Giving up a ruck means I can bring in another defender however I see appeal in both Gawn and Grundy so it's difficult to select one over the other and then it's also difficult to select Meeks v Hunter too (Flynn the first lock for me).

Many with Grawndy will have 4 premium def, 2 cashcows and two rookies. just need to reduce a premium elsewhere. Should not be driving the ruck rook equation.
