This is just from the lions BF board so don't know how strong the source was but they said a Reserves game was played Monday - the limited comments were 'CEY was best on, Ely also impressive' no mention of Mathieson or others really
IIRC that's Mighty Lions who is as reliable as anyone on what he says, but don't read too much into him not saying something.

Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson has revealed the AFL’s potential introduction of a concussion sub this season is likely to require that the sub be no older than 21 years, in an effort to help blood young players while protecting those who suffer head knocks.

I think Downie would be the hawks prime candidate to be the hawks concussion sub.
But if that rule isn't in place at the moment then it won't help us yet would it ?

Edit: just read it could soon be introduced, jesus, talk about a rushed decision....

Not taking SC into consideration the most logical think to do is either be able to name any sub, or sub on any of your emgs. Whoever gets subbed out strictly misses the 12 days so it's used for legitimate concussions.
Yeah they should have 22 on field and 1 sub who is a 23rd man who can come in, makes the most sense to me.

Well there is my floating donut...
Seems a pretty significant sacrifice to go with him. Either going without Flynn, Meek and Hunter, who all could be the best rookie or sacrificing a rookie forward in what is a pretty good crop.

Think D8 is the clear and obvious place for a donut if people are going that path, reality is you probably aren't sacrificing much there but cash is going to be tight this year and could become extremely hard to get depending how the sub is going to function if that ridiculous idea returns to our game... It's legitimately possible the subs may count as zeros if they don't play as they changed it several years ago to make that the case and would have less than two days to change the code to avoid that.

Depending on your structure. If you have gone with 5 premo defence and a Clark at D6, kos and Highmore on the bench. I think treacy is a good floating donut. He will end up as a R3( if you have chosen the rookie ruck option) once you have upgraded.

The only saving grace here is that in the BBL, where a substitute who was on the field for any reason used to get points for a catch and ruin your donut (!) the rules were changed to make clear that they only got points if they were specifically activated as a sub (and otherwise were treated as DNP). You'd think there would be some consistency between games here...

It looks like Fyfe from the suns is the best Floating donut/ capt loophole for D8, Def/ mid classification also. Kosi & Highmore certainly look like the only rookie priced defenders that will play round 1 so depending on your structure, if you need another defender rookie he probably serves that purpose the best.
Alternatively, if you do want a rookie defender that will get games I think Jones from Port is the best bet. Could park him on the bench & hope Ken gives him games early on but the issue there is you may have a situation like many did with Gould last season who sat there all year ... I know a few who had this problem (no I wasn’t one luckily). However, with the sub rule/ longer quarters & less rotations, I can see teams making a few changes every week/ trying to manage their list more than ever before.

Hartlett and Burton aren't exactly the sturdiest of obstacles between him and games as well.
