Downie is looking a bit unlikely, so having McNeil on the mid bench is a nice out.

But I just have so many memories of getting stuck with Dogs rookies that do basically nothing - either scoring so low as to be ineffective or getting dropped after 2-3 games (Ben Cavarra, Will Hayes, Ryan Gardner, Bailey Dale anybody?).

Might even stick with Downie as a DTP if I don't take one in defence

Cavarra was a season long donut for me last season. Looks like McNeil can fulfil that role this season

Clark’s upside seems worth the reward. High draft pick.

He has great scoring potential in the role that he’s been given, and who knows could do a Ridley and breakout.
Yeah that's what I was leaning towards, not sure about the Ridley comparison but looking around Geelong boards he still seems very fringe with Bews and Atkins around that mark also.

Epic stuff - think I will take him (bird in the hand)
Lachlan McNeil.

I know nothing about this guy, what role does he play and do you have any idea who is his competition is or if anyone is due back soon who is likely to push him out?

I need to go fishing asap for info on this guy and you're my first pit stop lol! ;)

Hey all. Not sure if this belongs in x vs y thread but, how necessary do we think Tom Powell really is? He was a gun junior but I didn't see what the fuss was about in the North game. At the moment the only way I can afford him is by downgrading Daniher into him which would, admittedly, allow me to upgrade Zorko into Dunkley

Dunkley, Powell vs
Daniher, Zorko
Same conundrum for me, can get to where I need to by turning him into a 123k option.

Not to mention I personally think he'll request a trade back to WA if he has another year of non-selection like last year.

The Eagles have definitely been in his ear.

ROOKIE midfielder James Jordon will make his AFL debut against Fremantle on Saturday at the MCG.

The 22-year-old was told of the news following Melbourne’s training session at Casey Fields on Wednesday.

“It’s obviously very exciting. I am just over the moon that I will be able to go out there this weekend with a great group of boys and hopefully get the win,” Jordon told Melbourne Media.

The one thing I take away from that photo is that Meek likely wont get pushed around physically by Gawn at the stoppages as much as you'd expect a rookie ruck to.

Could we potentially be looking at a Pittonet-esque debut against Gawn for the second season in a row?
It's a very decent chance. He's a good un.

35 from 79% game time in the pre-season is a bit of a concern for me. If I need another playing mid rookie I'll lock him in, but hoping there are better options as confirmed starters before the first game.

Lachie McNeil is basically Tanner Bruhn with a 60k discount.

Added bonus of being a slightly mature ager with senior footy behind him who played last year.

Will play as a small forward as he has all preseason, will score accordingly. Genuine pocket role though did have a few stints higher up the ground once it was over against Melbourne but think he's going to be a real slow burn.

I don't see a lot of pressure for spots but it's a very tough role and the most fringe position so could fall out very quickly. Weightman, Cavara, Bedendo and Hannan all strike me as potential competition who didn't or barely played in preseason. Treloar is going to push someone out as well, have to assume it's West if McNeil hung on.
