Suspended for 2 WAFL games so won't be available to play AFL until at least round 5. ***...

https://www.fremantlefc.com.au/news/881285

Fremantle forward Josh Treacy has been suspended for two matches by the WAFL tribunal for striking.
The incident occurred during Peel’s pre-season clash against Perth at David Grays Arena on Saturday.
Treacy was initially charged by the WAFL’s match review panel. It was classified as intentional, high contact and medium impact, which carried a three-match suspension, down to two with an early plea.
The tribunal re-graded the incident from intentional to careless, which carries a two-match sanction.
Because of the non-alignment of the WAFL and AFL seasons, Treacy won’t be available to play in the AFL until round five.

This seems like a win/win for me.

Those who wanted a floating donut have now got their man who even has a chance to play once we reach the point where he's no longer needed as a donut and those wanting Meek just got an obstacle out of the way.

Not getting a safer donut than a guy suspended for the first 5 weeks.

RE:........Josh Treacy has been suspended for two matches by the WAFL tribunal........... (so) Treacy won’t be available to play in the AFL until round five...........

That is so illogical. I'm pretty sure that rule will change in the future.
Why don't the AFL change it now, they still have 8 hours before round 1 starts. Not like making late changes is anything new with them, ay. ;)

I haven’t followed closely, but wouldn’t it open it up to being rorted if they changed it? How does the league know for sure that he was a viable chance of being selected for the AFL side - could Freo simply say they were going to pick any suspended WAFL player in the AFL, and that player then “serves their suspension” in AFL games they were never going to be selected for anyway?

I’m not suggesting this is what’s happening here, just that it’s a risk that I think opens up.

Okay.

If a player is suspended for 2 games, it's not logical to me that he be suspended for 5 games because it's another league, especially a higher graded league.

I think it is fairer to have the player miss the 1st 2 AFL games and the 1st 2 WAFL games, but then the player can play the 3rd AFL game and the 3rd WAFL game.

Sean Darcy appears set to line up in Fremantle’s season opener at the MCG after flying out with teammates this afternoon.

Fellow tall Matt Taberner also travelled with the Dockers despite exiting training early yesterday due to back spasms.

Darcy hasn’t featured at all this pre-season as he battles to overcome a knee complaint.

But the 202cm giant boarded the Dockers’ flight for Melbourne in a promising indication that he’ll be fit to take on star ruckman Max Gawn and the Demons on Saturday.

Hmmm, that is interesting

More interesting is that Ass coach Josh Carr said on radio last night when asked about who would help Meek that it would be Taberner with possible back up as well from the some of the tall defenders.

Cats footy boss Simon Lloyd confirmed the injury on Friday morning.

“Jeremy has started his rehabilitation program but will not be available for at least the opening two rounds,” he said.

The Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph posted on Twitter the “re-occurrence” of the same injury means Cameron will likely be out for around four weeks.

Cameron will not be named when the Cats announce their team for Round 1 on Friday evening.

It comes after the Western Bulldogs made a surprise selection of their own in their Round 1 team announcement on Thursday with Jason Johannisen missing from the starting 22.
