Berry news is awesome, really like what I saw from this kid in the practice games - his tackling is excellent/defensive side of his game is impressive.

Quite clear in the Making Their Mark video that Nicks wants to improve the defensive aspect of the crows midfield - Berry certainly helps that.

Well put it this way...i expect him to play 10 or so games this year. is it rounds 1-10...maybe not but I am willing to back his potential. Note I am also not starting a donut this year so i feel less risk with this even if he is out after 1 or 2 weeks.

Every game i see him play he gives great tackling pressure, he is physical, he knows where the goals are so he has an extra string to his bow there.......To be fair he likely is only inthe team as Crouch isn't playing but once you get a spot it is yours to lose. Going by his effort (and the efforts of some of his more experienced mates on occasions) I am willing to gamble he gets a go. The 'old crows culture' would certainly see him straight out even after an amazing game. I am hoping the 'new crows culture' rewards effort and performance.

So in short there is a bit of 'my boy' shiny new toy Adelaide bias but my justification on picking him is above *disclaimer don't blame me if it doesn't work out haha*
4 handballs (3 contested), 1 mark, 2 tackles for only 13 SC with 49% TOG in the community series - surely those stats deserve a bit more than that?

Either way, it's really hard to start a rookie that scored 13.

Carlton
Very torn on Dow. When fully fit, Carlton now has many players who can now play mid so I'm not sure where he fits in. Cripps, Williams, Walsh, Curnow and Setterfield are all above him already, added with Murphy, Gibbons, Martin ect who all run through the middle at times. In the first practice game he was prolific and finally looked like taking his game to the next level, but unfortunately was far from his best against saints.

However in saying that, currently I have a spare 150k and have Sam Berry, am leaning towards taking the risk and grabbing Dow, and worst case, in two weeks time I will be able to see the best rookie to grab instead.

OUT: Scott

IN: Jones
Mistake. Scott is an on-field calibre rookie. Jones is a slow burn bench.

Jones absolutely worth picking if you've got a lot of forward rookies but Scott is one of the very best rookies.

I'm inclined to pick Cahill - partially because he actually looks like he has a decent role. Not going to say he smashes it but of the rookies with limited ownership he appeals on the basis he could nailed a game or two, grow as a player and become an onfield option pretty quickly.

Are Bombers fan picking him or simply taking Jones?
All over Cahill. Playing a role that is a 70ppg role. Just can't argue with that in a team that needs him in that role. They've lost Fantasia, McKenna and Saad that were their best 3 in the role last year.

Last year I used early round 1 games to assess the rucks and it lead me down the path of trading trac to Ceglar.
Well, I traded in Spudgard, beat that :cautious:
I see you two and raise you a "I started Spudgard and traded Brayshaw to Ceglar and didn't even start Trac after he burned me for 3 years in a row"

/Mic drop

So Berry is in for Crouch? Sounds like another 1-2 week rookie.
Berry may be in for Crouch but from what he showed in the AAMI game he will cement a spot in their best 22 pretty quickly. In two minutes he showed me more than Chayce Jones has in 2 years.

Take the 13 as a grain of salt, he scored 19 DT after coming on when the game was absolutely done and did a lot of good things, he'd have scored 30 in a contest.

Really like him, he's an on-field rookie in the right role but wouldn't go him in round 1 just to make sure he's playing it and not rotting in a forward pocket!

You like Scott JS.?
Yes. Mature ager given a defined role, looked very good in it and Crozer is out long term. JJ is lurking though but it's Scott's position to lose right now. Similar to Cahill, playing as the 4th rebounding defender and should push 70 in that role.

What's your thoughts on Hunter's output?
Hunter's output I expect to be excellent, 80+ with 90 not beyond him. Problem is that he's done when Ryder and Marshall are back and that could be round 3. Be shocked if he plays any more than sparingly when both of them are available, if he plays at the level that would require then we'll all be dumping Gawn or Grundy to get him anyway.

Just on the Dogs’ rookies, we have extremely good depth in that 19-22 player range. There are around eight or nine guys that have genuine claims for a spot on the bench or to sneak onto the 18 on the field.

I’m leaning Scott at this stage due to his age and versatility, which we know that Bevo likes. Being a DPP helps as well.

@Professor you starting Dow? I reckon he's just an average player who might not even make it past round 3, don't like much of the rookies though, JS kinda sucks so might need to pay up a bit for these types. You running with Doch?
He can go large, but lacks consistency. If he plays well 1st couple of rounds he should be safe Otherwise there's others waiting, Stocker playing well in the reserves now, with Kennedy too. He's not in my side atm, only Walsh. Feeling sentimental as I could get Danger in

So passing on McNeil?
At this stage yes. I’m not convinced with his JS, and I think there’s enough depth with Berry now named in terms of options on the mid bench.

At worst his price means if you start without him and he strings together a couple of good scores, its easy to trade down and pocket the extra cash.
