So you if Gawn fails, is your plan to trade in a FWD or position rather than another of the rookie ruck or just ‘in case’?
I could do Grundy to Macrae in one hit via DPP if I had Fullarton.

It’d just be more to keep options open come rnd 3.

I still think Grundy can turn it around and Gawn will score well against Meek

Gawn to Hunter makes $648,000 , it has to be thought about with seemingly less stoppages.
I'd rather just use a trade, keep gawn and trade Grundy.

I'm not going to panic though. Grundy won't get double teamed and play the best mid in the comp.

So keeping gawn. Giving Grundy another look next week. Only thing is do I stick with the C on gawn or put it on to neale

Collingwood draftee Finlay Macrae impressed through the midfield, while draft prospect Nick Daicos dazzled at half-back.

The son of Pies legend Peter and younger brother of current midfielder Josh, Nick is expected to play several VFL games for the Pies in a season where the club could be forced to match a bid inside the top three for his services.[/QUOTE
David King has unloaded on Grundy, I personally think Grundy will respond/ bounce back next week :-

David King bluntly ripped into Grundy following Friday’s underwhelming performance against the Bulldogs, calling on the ruckman to prove his worth.

The 26-year-old is reportedly in the first season of a mammoth seven-year deal with the Magpies, estimated to work $1 million per year.

“If you’re going to pay someone a million dollars a year, they’ve got to be the difference in the game. You can’t be in question,” King said on Fox Footy.

“He was beaten tonight and you can get beaten game-to-game, but this is on watch now. Tonight they were humbled and I think it starts at the coalface.

“You’ve got to challenge your best players to make a difference and Brodie Grundy, that salary cap squeeze we spoke about last year, it’s largely because of contracts like that.
Very Harsh one game into the season. Agree with the contract....who in there right mind signs a player for 7 years. The PIES DEF one of the best but after that. I cannot see how they can kick more than 10 goals a game. FWD Line has been a mess for 3 years now and it hasn’t been addressed.

Any chance the Giants vs Saints game gets abandoned? Races in Sydney called off due to 150mm of rain.
Unlikely. Races need to worry about future races and horses are a lot more prone to leg injuries. Giants Stadium gets resurfaced after the show anyway, and I've seen games played in worse conditions. It's just whether it's considered safe for the players.

Buckley always hides behind I do what’s best for the club. Well it’s time for a change up in the forward line. That last night was straight from the Longmire play book. Mc Creery as pressure forward and Rantell on the wing is fast and has good endurance.

Avoid Neale as captain, he has poor record vs Sydney.
You'd think Gawn can score at least 110 against Meek even with Jackson sharing ruck duties.

Yep, that's how I felt all along, Grundy is a stoppage beast who is (was) great on the spread from stoppages for the 2nd possession in the chain as well, would run other rucks into the ground.

Gawn is great getting behind the play, which is the main thing I worry about if he is playing forward more, but secondary to that I also worry that the rucks have really struggled to get behind the play so far, it's moving quickly from 50 to 50 and I don't know if Gawn can get to the contests needed. Gawn has also got the bonus that he's a better marking target for long kicks for his own team, Pies didn't even look for Grundy on kick-outs or long kicks.

I don't really like either right now though. Taking away 10+% of their scoring source is still very significant at their end of the equation. I still like Gawn more because he's a much better ruckman, which means more of the stoppage pie, and he does a lot more things away from the stoppage to score, plus, he hasn't looked like utter crap for the last 8 odd games he's played.
You still giving Gawn the C.?

I'm surprised you think Taranto. I thought he relied on stoppages for tackles.
I'm thinking Macrae, Zerrett, Jelly, Walsh.
Does anyone else have any thoughts?
Another I've considered but am unsure of is McLuggage.
Rather than outscoring the stoppage kings it might just be a flattening of the curve.
Mc Cluggage is the one I’m looking at if Gawn doesn’t work out. Was having a great 2020 until injury struck and slowed his progress. Has Lyon and Neale to protect him from any tag.? Less stoppages and more spread in the game should suit.

Really hesitant on Gawn.....but will stick with him due to match ups in first 2 rounds.
