16/1692 with Dustys VC

brought in a FD to get Rowe’s score off bench plus Dusty VC - Gulden on the bench the only real negative

Ziebell, Hunter Clark, Flynn, Rowell, Highmore and T Powell to come

Started around position 150k last year after a shocking round 1, nice to be thereabouts this year!

North Melb.
I've got Gulden with an E and only Powell and Josh Kelly left in the mids. Seen a few people swapping Powell out for a donut.

What is the cutoff do we think? If Powell gets 70 then he becomes a fairly important rookie, and you probably need to trade to bring him back in. But you've bought 70 odd points by taking the Gulden loop and that doesn't seem like enough to warrant a trade?

Then again if Powell and North get wiped away and he scores 40 you're 100 points better off for no negative result .

Going by the weekend's matches so far North are going to destroy Port - they, like us won't see it coming.

Just caught up on this thread and was feeling a bit better until I saw some of the scores posted at the end. Annoys me to see people lamenting their scores when they are going at better than 100 per player.

I am sitting at 1408 / 17 (Gawn); 3 tons on field (Oliver, Steward, Laird) and 2 tons on bench (Rowe, Gulden) and am likely to post my lowest ever non-bye round score. Just once it would be nice to start the year from somewhere else than behind the 8-ball.
Bad luck mate. I think there’ll be a lot of gun coaches starting slow this week, with a lot of the popular heavy hitters getting off to slow starts.

Also seems like not as many scores posted that we would normally see for a round 1 thread (compared to preseason) so think the spread of scores will be bigger than it seems.

My 2c on the Gulden / Powell debate:

The way I see it, technically it doesn't count as a trade yet, as the round hasn't officially started yet. You still have 30 trades, so you can simply write it off as a "rookie correction" that you would usually fix in R2 / R3 anyway. As long as you haven't missed too many of the top rookie options so far, it's probably worth a shot.

Worst case: Powell goes BANG and also scores 140, and you're no better off, but you now only have 3 corrective trades for the next two rounds (instead of 4). Average case: he scores, say, 70-80, and you've also gained 60-70 points.

Personally, the only rookie so far that I've missed that's worth getting in is Jordon, so I'll be pulling the trigger on getting Gulden's score on-field.

Of course, I'm sure my logic is iffy, and someone will point it out to me (he he) ... go nuts

18/1695 (C Gawn) - feels a bit meh, very GnR team with plenty of expensive players. Danger over Dusty hurts, Neale poor, Merrett/Impey didn't push on.

Will see how late changes go, Rowell to Taranto to get Bergman over Berry plus cash to upgrade McNeill. Berry solid however 8 possessions and Crouch now expected back next week, hopefully doesn't cost me.

Will give everything a week before pulling the trigger. Grundy may go for any semi premium value player (Fullerton forward, not sure I trust Meek/Hunter yet in round 3/4) and will consider a sideways rookie trade (also want to see Jordan post Viney into team). Danger could be tempting for league (main focus) if he gets 3 weeks.

It is roulette picking the rookies right now. His TOG was low, scoring rate good, was versus Hawks and I think North are not Adelaide and will be poor, terrible finish to last year. Depth in rookies is poor is the main issue, onfield ones ok, think bench rookies looking like 50's.

The only recommendation is whether there is a alternative choice that may be 2-3 games away from getting a game. Have seen SC winners who never touched the def rookie who never generated money, use the trades to turn over good players not sideways trade donuts round 1.

Bit of a what if night for Daniher in a loosing side.
Kick up the ass for the lions mids will see plenty of inside 50s for Daniher to hopefully score a few 100s in the future. Understanding that 50-60 type scores will happen knowing he plays for a team that gives him enough pill to potentially lead the colman is what we've signed up for at under 250k.
Stick it out till upgrade time.

And Adelaide deserve to win it!
@Juzzo i was really impressed with the crows tackling and team pressure they went hard contest to contest , Tex looked to have been rejuvenated and having Fwds staying home a bit more will only help him imo. Bombers attacked in the 1st half with the same intent as the crows but unfortunately they couldn't sustain it in the 2nd half.

will be a interesting game next week Crows vs Swans

Yeah, Tex looks fit and new rule helps him. Really good effort by Crows. Was out for tea last night and sneakily looking at sc scores on phone and thought at half time Bombers would run away with it, surprised at final result. What strings did Clarko pull in the second half?

17/1557 Gawn. Taking Gulden with A Fyfe. Need every point I can get right now!! Taranto (after last year said never again but here we are), Steele, Ziebell, Rowell and Highmore to come. the trifecta of neale, Gawn and Grundy hurts but it will for so many players. It’ll be interesting to see the panic trades this week!

Im pretty sure he stuck a rocket fair up Titch cause he killed us in 2nd half, im not sure but i think he sent someone to merrett cause he went missing in the 3rd it seemed.
If we kicked straight in the 3rd the Hawks would not have come back as hard , we missed so many gettable shots in between each of the goals the hawks kicked in the 3rd.
overall besides the result i was pleased to see how the team will evolve under Rutten and with the new kids. Very happy with Caldwell just needed a bit more polish towards the end of the game.
