Perth Scorchers international signing Yasir Arafat has been ruled out of the remainder of the club’s KFC T20 Big Bash League campaign through injury. Arafat injured the thumb on his right hand – his bowling hand – in last Thursday’s win over the Adelaide Strikers when he dived to field a ball early in the innings. His thumb became caught in the turf, rupturing a key ligament.
The 31-year-old bowled out the game with the injury.
Arafat will this week undergo surgery, ruling him out for the remainder of the BBL.
BBL regulations state that Arafat will not be able to be replaced by another overseas player as the paceman was already a replacement for original international signing Dwayne Smith.
Smith’s situation is unchanged and, at this stage, he remains unavailable.
Selectors are considering requirements for the remaining matches and will make a determination shortly if an application for a local replacement player will be submitted to the BBL Technical Committee.
